The removable peripheral device comprises a housing and a first connector extending from an end of the housing. The housing has a larger cross-section than the connector. The breathing assistance unit comprises an exterior casing and a second connector mounted within the casing and accessible from outside of the casing. An interfacing portion, the second connector and the housing formed so at least a portion of the housing adjacent the first connector end interfaces with the interfacing portion to connect the removable peripheral device to the breathing assistance unit.
