Abstract: The present invention discloses the genomic structure and sequence of DCAL. It also provides methods for producing a genetically modified non-human animal model having altered DCAL gene function as well as methods for using this model in the study of the immune system, and particularly DC function, and in screening for biologically active agents that modulate DCAL function. The present invention also discloses the use of such modulatory agents in methods for modulating immune responses, and in compositions for treating and/or preventing DCAL-related conditions. Also disclosed is the use of the genetically modified non-human animal model of the invention in the study of brain physiology and more particularly neuronal cell function.
