  • Publication number: 20210393265
Abstract: An end effector for a medical device includes an anvil and a cartridge. The anvil has an anvil face and a first staple pocket and a second staple pocket, each defined by the anvil face. The first staple pocket includes a first surface having a first depth, and the second staple pocket includes a second surface having a second depth. The cartridge has a first staple having a first height in an open configuration, a first driver, a second staple having a second height in an open configuration, and a second driver. A first staple formation distance is defined by a first distance between the first driver and the first surface of the first staple pocket when the anvil and the cartridge are in a closed position. The first staple formation distance differs from a second staple formation distance.

  • Publication number: 20210228213
Abstract: A clamp for a medical procedure includes a first clamp member, a second clamp member, a hinge, a biasing member, a shaft, and an actuator. The hinge couples the first ends of the first and second clamp members such that the first clamp member is pivotable relative to the second clamp member. The biasing member couples the second ends of the first and second clamp members and is configured to apply a clamping force. The distal end of the shaft and the biasing member are fixedly coupled with at least one of the first clamp member or the second clamp member for a duration of the medical procedure. The actuator is operatively coupled with the biasing member such that the actuator selectively tensions the biasing member to provide the clamping force.

  • Patent number: 10918387
Abstract: A surgical instrument having an elongated shaft having a shaft distal end and a shaft proximal end. An end effector is coupled to the shaft distal end and includes opposed jaws. A housing is included in one of the jaws, the housing having a housing proximal end, a housing distal end, an upper surface, a distal garage having lateral surfaces that extend above the upper surface, and a plurality of staple openings extending through the upper surface. A knife member is supported within the housing for movement distally. The knife member is moveable into a predetermined parked position such that a first portion of the cutting blade displaces below the upper surface and a second portion remains displaced above the upper surface. There is enough lateral clearance in the predetermined parked position between the lateral faces and the second portion to accommodate a dislodged staple.
