  • Patent number: 8151669
Abstract: A method and device for producing band saw blades, particularly for the timber-processing industry. A blank band saw blade is produced from a metal band, such as a metal band that can be stored on a roll. Several metal bands are combined into a flush metal band packet which can be introduced into a saw band grinding machine. The metal bands are pressed onto a planar guide. The metal band packet is clamped and a grinding machine operates to produce a desired saw tooth profile. A pawl is introduced into a tooth profile which is ground into the metal band packet. The clamped metal band packet is then loosened and advanced with a predetermined tooth spacing.

  • Patent number: 6745644
Abstract: In installations for truing up band blades, band-saw blades must be precisely measured, in order to be trued up accurately. The band-saw blade to be trued runs over two deviation stations and is trued up in the upper linear guide area. The invention provides a saw-band guide section in order to measure the pre-tension in the saw blade which creates the desired bowing. The saw-band guide section is formed by two parallel guide bearers, each of which is subdivided into two sub-bearer sections. The band-saw blade is guided on bearing rollers between the guide bearers and guided by dead rolls which are mounted on pivoting carriages into a curve which corresponds to a clothoid arc. A measurement carried out by a measuring bar comprising sensors provides an extremely accurate, constant result in an area practically devoid of stress.

  • Patent number: 6543433
Abstract: A dressing center with a roller unit wherein a saw blade is smoothed. The saw blade is led centrically to an ideal plane between corresponding roller pairs. Each roller pair has a roller with a convex running surface and a roller with a concave running surface. The upper rollers are mounted in corresponding bearing blocks. The bearing blocks have threaded sleeves into which the threaded spindles engage. The threaded spindles are driven by stepper motors. The stepper motors are activated as a function of measured unevennesses. Movement of the upper rollers is achieved as a distance proportionally to the measured unevennesses. With a distance-proportional correction, the smoothing is practically achieved in one operating cycle, directly to a desired final measure. The continuously bearing roller pairs result in a method that functions with an extremely low noise level.

  • Patent number: 5826465
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for handling a band saw for the purposes of effecting manufacturing and/or repair operations upon the band saw characterized by, during such manufacturing and/or repair operations upon the band saw (5), supporting the band saw in such manner that the weight of the band saw (5) is not carried by an edge of the band saw (5). The support includes rotatable supports (24, 25) for supporting the band saw; the rotatable supports being positionally adjustable to accommodate differing band saw lengths; and in that adjustments are provided for enabling the rotatable supports to be displaced to advance the band saw to a machining station (22) for defining a working station/position at which a manufacturing and/or repair operation can be effected.

  • Patent number: 5283987
Abstract: A saw blade clamp unit for holding saw blade in a manner to permit machining of side faces of hard material tips provided upon the teeth of the saw blades. The saw blade clamp unit clamps a saw blade tooth adjacent to a saw blade tooth tip being machined, holding the saw blade. The clamping mechanism of the clamp unit is arranged to form a lateral reference position for the tooth to be machined, with the tooth being set to the required grinding position during the clamping operation.

  • Patent number: 5092202
Abstract: Apparatus for securing hard material tips to the teeth of a cutter tool includes a carrier unit for presenting an end of a rod of the tip forming material to a tooth to be tipped, a spring for exerting pressure between the tip forming material and the tooth to be tipped during a welding operation such that the end can be welded to the tooth with the tip forming length positioned with respect to the tooth at substantially the rake angle for the tip. Following the welding operation the rod or bar is severed from the end thereof attached to the blade tooth in such manner that the cut surface defines the top face of the tip.The carrier unit brings the lower end of the bar into contact with the tooth that is located at the welding station to hold the lower end in place during the welding operation.

  • Patent number: 4949599
Abstract: There is provided a length of material from which may be cut tips for use with tools involving tips of material that is harder than that of the remainder of a tool, wherein said length of material is so preformed as to present at least one axially extending planar surface (17-25) which when a tip forming length (9) is cut therefrom and the tip forming length is mounted to a tool (4), lies substantially at the required operational angle for one of the faces of the tip that is to be involved with the cutting action thereof.

  • Patent number: 4938104
Abstract: To gain access to the cutting edge of a saw tooth in the direction of both the back and the front face of a tooth in a single grinding process, the grinding tools (27,37) are adjustable in relation to both their respective pivoted arms (2,3) and with them relative to the machine frame (11,12). Only the primary pivoted arm (2) is driven up and down by a drive (43), pivoting the secondary arm (3) with it by a drive joint (6). Because the pivot axes of pivoted arms (2,3) are not parallel, a universal coupling (6) must be used. This drive joint (6) is offset relative to the pivot axles (32) upwardly from the saw-blade guide (13) in the plane (14) of the saw-blade. Thereby with an otherwise identical device wide or larger-diameter saw blades can be ground.
