  • Patent number: 4188471
Abstract: A particulate catalyst support such as silica or a silica-titania cogel is impregnated with a titanium compound from a nonaqueous solution and the resulting composition heated to activation temperature and thereafter impregnated with a .pi. bonded organochromium compound. Finally the chromium-containing support is heated to reactivate same. Such catalysts are particularly suitable for polymerizing at least one mono-1-olefin containing 2 to 8 carbon atoms per molecule.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 4, 1974
Date of Patent: February 12, 1980
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
Inventors: Benny E. Nasser, Jr., Joseph A. Delap
  • Patent number: 4130505
Abstract: Catalyst is produced by first activating a chromium-containing silicon-containing support at calcination temperature, treating with a fluoride compound and thereafter heating at a lower temperature of 300.degree. to 1000.degree.F for about 1 to 20 hours. Catalysts thus produced are of particular utility in the production of narrow molecular weight distribution ethylene polymers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 26, 1974
Date of Patent: December 19, 1978
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
Inventors: Benny E. Nasser, Jr., Richard E. Dietz
  • Patent number: 4014816
Abstract: Olefins are polymerized with a catalyst which forms on mixing a supported chromium oxide composite and a silane adjuvant. This system allows the production of polymer of a given melt index at a higher temperature, thus increasing the production rate and is of particular utility in solution polymerizations designed to produce ethylene polymers and copolymers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 16, 1975
Date of Patent: March 29, 1977
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
Inventors: John P. Hogan, Benny E. Nasser, Joseph A. Delap
  • Patent number: 3951933
Abstract: Ethylene or ethylene plus a higher 1-olefin comonomer is polymerized in a solution system utilizing a catalyst comprising a silicon-containing support, a chromium compound, and a Group VIII metal and thereafter any excess monomer is removed and hydrogen introduced to lower the unsaturation of the polymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 1974
Date of Patent: April 20, 1976
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
