Publication number: 20240102576Abstract: The present application relates to an insert arrangement for engaging with a solenoid arrangement and for closing a valve cavity of a damping arrangement. The insert arrangement comprises: an armature member adapted in shape and size to provide a base portion and an axial portion extending out of the base portion in a direction parallel to a first axis, a casing member adapted to extend around the axial portion to define a receiving space between the axial portion and the casing member. The solenoid arrangement is at least partly arrangeable in said receiving space, and the casing member is further adapted with a magnetically conducting material for substantially closing a magnetic field generated by the solenoid arrangement. The insert arrangement further comprises fixating means for fixating the armature member to the damping arrangement, wherein said fixating means are arranged on the casing member.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2023Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventor: Benny EWERS

Publication number: 20220128116Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a valve arrangement for a shock absorber. The valve arrangement comprises a valve member axially moveable relative a housing, and a triple spring arrangement including a first spring, a second spring and a coil spring arranged between the valve member and a coupling member coupled to the first spring and the second spring. The valve arrangement is adapted so that when the valve member moves no more than a first stroke length relative a predetermined reference position the first spring deflects to adjust a force equilibrium of the valve member, when the valve member moves more than the first stroke length the second spring deflects to adjust said force equilibrium, and when the valve member moves beyond a second stroke length greater than the first stroke length, the coil spring compresses to adjust said force equilibrium. A shock absorber comprising such a valve arrangement and a method for controlling a damping medium flow in a shock absorber is disclosed as well.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2021Publication date: April 28, 2022Applicant: ÖHLINS RACING ABInventors: Benny Ewers, Fredrik Larsson, Arnold Hoven

Patent number: 10364861Abstract: A valve arrangement controls a flow of damping medium in a shock absorber. Pressurized damping fluid acts around a whole circumference of the slidable valve member and the impact of flow forces on the slidable valve member is minimized, which vastly decrease the disturbing axial forces and thereby achieves a more dependable valve arrangement with a reliable operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2015Date of Patent: July 30, 2019Assignee: Öhlins Racing ABInventors: Benny Ewers, Fredrik Larsson, Simon Ivarsson

Patent number: 10240656Abstract: A valve arrangement controls a flow of damping medium in a shock absorber. A radial column is provided with an axial failsafe flow such that the fail safe flow is not dependent on the exact axial position of the control valve member for creating the fail safe restriction, and less turbulence arise affecting the axial position of the control valve member. Thereby a valve arrangement is provided which has a more stable and reliable failsafe operation, resulting in a more dependable valve arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2015Date of Patent: March 26, 2019Assignee: ÖHLINS RACING ABInventors: Benny Ewers, Fredrik Larsson, Simon Ivarsson

Patent number: 9829061Abstract: A valve arrangement comprising a main valve member being axially movably arranged in a valve housing and arranged to interact with a main valve seat of the valve housing in order to restrict or regulate a pressure in a main fluid flow in response to a pilot pressure acting on the main valve member. A control valve member is axially movable within the main valve member in response to an actuating force acting on the control valve member. A pilot valve member is axially movable within the control valve member, and is arranged to interact with a pilot valve seat of the control valve member to restrict a pilot fluid flow out from a pilot chamber. The pilot valve member is resiliently loaded towards the pilot valve seat relative the main valve member or the valve housing, such that the resilient loading on the pilot valve member is adjustable in response to the actuating force.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2014Date of Patent: November 28, 2017Assignee: ÖHLINS RACING ABInventors: Benny Ewers, Simon Ivarsson, Fredrik Larsson

Patent number: 9777867Abstract: A valve arrangement comprising a valve housing, a pilot chamber, a main valve member and a control valve member. The main valve member is axially movably arranged in the valve housing and is arranged to restrict a main fluid flow. The control valve member is movable in an axial direction relative the main valve member in response to an actuating force acting on the control valve member. The control valve member is arranged to interact with the main valve member to define axially separated pilot and bypass fluid restrictions. The pilot restriction restricts a pilot fluid flow out from the pilot chamber. The bypass restriction restricts a bypass flow bypassing the main fluid flow. The bypass flow is separate from the pilot fluid flow. The pilot and bypass restrictions are adjustable in response to the actuating force, thereby allowing simultaneous adjustment of the pilot pressure and the bypass fluid flow.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2014Date of Patent: October 3, 2017Assignee: OHLINS RACING ABInventors: Benny Ewers, Simon Ivarsson, Fredrik Larsson

Patent number: 9151354Abstract: A valve device for electrically regulating a pressure in a hydraulic fluid flow through the valve device in response to an actuating force during a normal operation and mechanically regulating said pressure during a fail-safe operation when no actuating force is present is disclosed. The valve device has a valve chamber. A first valve member is movable within the valve chamber in an axial direction to interact with a first valve seat in response to the actuating force in order to restrict the hydraulic fluid flow into the valve chamber during normal operation. The first valve member is spring-loaded away from the second seat in a direction opposite that of the actuating force such that the first valve member is movable in the axial direction. A second valve member forms a movable chamber wall portion defining a part of the valve chamber. The second valve member is spring-loaded in the direction of the actuating force.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2012Date of Patent: October 6, 2015Assignee: ÖHLINS RACING ABInventors: Benny Ewers, Lars Sonsterod

Publication number: 20120097493Abstract: A pressure regulator adjusts the pressure of a flow of damping medium in a shock-absorber valve (1) between an upstream and downstream volume at first and a third pressures. The pressure regulator comprises a first valve member (3) which moves axially with a stroke, from a seat part (2) with a first side (2a) having at least a first and a second seat (4, 5). When the valve member (3) moves from the seat part, a stroke-varying opening throttling the flow is created between the parts. The seat part comprises at least two parallel first and second throttles (4a, 5a). The seat part also comprises a fixed third throttle (6), arranged in series with the second throttle. The first and second throttle vary with the stroke so that the ratio between the first flow (through first throttle) and second flow (through second and third throttles) increases with the stroke.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 22, 2010Publication date: April 26, 2012Applicant: Ohlins Racing ABInventors: Benny Ewers, Håkan Malmborg, Lars Sönsteröd
