Abstract: A system, a prediction unit, and a method for predicting a failure of at least one unit for monitoring and/or controlling transportation traffic. The system includes a communication network having at least one network access point, a functional unit dedicated to the at least one unit for monitoring and/or controlling transportation traffic, wherein the decentralized functional unit is connected to the at least one network access point, and a prediction unit configured to predict the failure based on data sent from the functional unit and/or received by the functional unit over the communication network.
