  • Publication number: 20040255726
Abstract: The wrench uses a spring driven locking mechanism to lock the movable lower jaw into position. A release bar enables the locking mechanism to be rotated, against the spring tension, to a position that releases the lower jaw for movement. Once released the spring tension returns the locking mechanism to a position that prevents movement of the lower jaw. A spring extending from the top of the stationary jaw into the lower jaw maintains the lower jaw adjacent to the upper jaw. By releasing the locking mechanism, repositioning the wrench without completed removal and then relocking the locking mechanism, the wrench can be used in a ratchet style. The locking mechanism is a multi-toothed semi circle that interacts with the teeth on the lower jaw shaft to engage and disengage the lower jaw.

  • Patent number: 6588304
Abstract: The invention is an improved Offset Head Ratchet Wrench. It allows the user to remove or interchange different size ratchet heads or tools quickly with the push of a button attached at the head of the activating shaft. This shaft can activate in three stages if it is operating an offset wrench. The activating shaft is attached to an E shaped structure, which is made up of an activating shaft, locking pin and pivot pin, all three being attached to a central plate. Stage one is when the activating shaft is in a partially depressed position. The locking pin releases the ratchet head for rotation only. Stage two is when the activating shaft is fully depressed, it releases the pivot pin, allowing the ratchet head to be easily and quickly removed or exchanged for another type of tool with a similarly designed head.

  • Patent number: 6053076
Abstract: The invention is an improved ratchet wrench with a handle pivotally attached to a rotating head which can be locked into a position either axially aligned with the handle or laterally angled to one side of the handle. A locking mechanism includes a spring-biased, J-shaped structure, having an actuating shaft which passes through the handle and a locking pin which selectively engages one of a plurality of holes defined in a neck of the rotating head. The locking mechanism has a button on the actuating shaft to sandwich the spring against the handle and permit manual depression in order to move the locking pin from a locked to the unlocked position, the locking pin being biased by the spring towards the neck in a locked position. Angling the handle to one side allows the wrench to be used to loosen or tighten bolts where there is insufficient space to use a conventional straight wrench.
