  • Publication number: 20020146542
Abstract: A film with an ink jet printed surface is provided. The film is biaxially stretched and includes a surface layer of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and particles of an incompatible material. This surface layer has a meshed network of HDPE fibers and striations of layers coplanar with the plane of the film. This surface layer is porous in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the film and has a void content of at least about 20%. The surface layer is provided with a coating of a porous ink receiving layer.

  • Patent number: 6455150
Abstract: A heat-sealable multilayer film comprising: (a) an upper heat-sealable layer comprising (I) an ethylene polymer, copolymer, or terpolymer and (ii) a particulate, crosslinked hydrocarbyl-substituted polysiloxane having a mean particle size of from about 0.5 &mgr;m to about 20.0 &mgr;m, as a combined slip agent and antiblocking agent; (b) an intermediate core layer comprising a propylene polymer; and (c) a lower heat-sealable layer consisting essentially of (I) an ethylene polymer, copolymer, or terpolymer, (ii) a particulate, crosslinked hydrocarbyl-substituted polysiloxane having a mean particle size of from about 0.5 &mgr;m to about 20.0 &mgr;m, as a combined slip agent and antiblocking agent; and (iii) from about 0.15 wt% to about 1.5 wt% of a liquid, hydrocarbyl-substituted polysiloxane. The upper heat-sealable sealable layer does not contain a liquid polysiloxane, but may have a coating of liquid polysiloxane transferred from the lower heat-sealable layer.

  • Publication number: 20020106502
Abstract: The present invention relates to a biaxially oriented film having a water wettable surface, the film containing a water wettable porous high density polyethylene (HDPE) surface layer. The water wettable surface layer contains porous HDPE and a silicone glycol coating impregnated in the pore of the HDPE surface layer. The biaxially oriented water wettable film is useful for ink jet printing.
