Abstract: Optical access nodes (1) comprising optical line terminations (31,32) and comprising optical components (41,42) coupled to the optical line terminations (31,32) are provided with switching means (50-52) for coupling a redundant optical line termination (60) to the optical components (41,42). This redundant optical line termination (60) forms a substitute for at least one of the optical line terminations (31,32). As a result, it is no longer necessary to have a working part and a standby part in each optical line termination (31,32), and the optical access node (1) according to the invention has got an increased efficiency in terms of costs and volume.
