Abstract: An image recording/reproducing apparatus and a control method thereof to provide the functions of recording image files in a recording medium and reproducing and editing the image files recorded in the recording medium. The apparatus and method enables a user to easily select and manipulate functions of the apparatus using a menu display, and can record, reproduce and edit the image files according to the function selected by the user. The apparatus and method, therefore allows the user to easily select and manipulate the functions using a displayed menu, and more efficiently manage and easily search for the recorded image files.

Abstract: An apparatus for generating a virtual channel and a method of operating the generated virtual channel are provided. The apparatus for generating the virtual channel comprises a virtual channel setting module for setting any one channel among a plurality of channels to be a virtual channel per user; and a virtual channel processing module for registering the program selected by the user who has set the virtual channel in a program list associated with the virtual channel. The virtual channel can be set per user so that a program suiting to each user's taste can be watched even when several users use the same TV.

Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for providing a digital television viewer with a user-friendly user interface using avatars. The method of providing a user interface using an avatar generates an avatar and a menu screen based on user information collected by a predetermined unit, displays the generated avatar and menu screen, and renews the avatar and the menu screen based on the viewing patterns of a user. The apparatus has an information collection unit for collecting user information such as information input by a user or viewing pattern of the user, an avatar generation and renewal unit for generating and renewing an avatar based on the user information collected by the information collection unit, a menu screen composition unit generating and renewing a menu screen based on the user information collected by the information collection unit, and a data processing unit for transferring the generated or renewed avatar and menu screen to a display.
