    Abstract: Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of three-dimensional icons that can be used to display a wide variety of information in an efficient manner and that can effectively organize a large number of applications on the display of a computing device (e.g., on the display of a mobile device). In one exemplary embodiment disclosed herein, an icon is associated with one or more applications, and a first panel of the icon is displayed. An update to the first application is received. Based on the update to the first application, the icon is rotated in three dimensions and a second panel of the icon is displayed with an indication of the update to the application.

The private browsing session restrictedly saves one or more network browsing memories corresponding to activity between the network computing device and other network computing devices. The one or more network browsing memories are restrictedly saved under protection of a private credential. After the private browsing session has ended, access to the private browsing session is blocked unless a received credential submission matches the private credential. If the received credential submission matches the private credential, the private browsing session is resumed with access to the one or more network browsing memories.

    Abstract: Techniques and tools are described for detecting screen orientation using proximity sensors. A display mode of an electronic display of a mobile device can be changed based on input from one or more proximity sensors. The display mode can be changed to a portrait, a landscape mode, or other display mode based on the input from the one or more proximity sensors. In one embodiment, the input can indicate that one or more objects are proximate to or in physical contact with a perimeter of a front surface of the mobile device. In another embodiment, the input can indicate that the one or more objects are proximate to or in physical contact with a portion of the mobile device, such as a side surface.
