  • Patent number: 6942651
Abstract: A fastener tab for use on an absorbent garment is provided. The fastener tab has a tab body with a proximal edge for locating proximate the garment, a distal edge opposite the proximal edge, a top edge adjacent the proximal edge, and a bottom edge opposite the top edge, and a fastening area for removeably fastening the tab body to the garment. The fastening area has a first edge. A first tangent line is tangent to a first portion of the first edge of the fastening area, a second tangent line is tangent to a second portion of the first edge of the fastening area, the second tangent line intersects the first tangent line, and one of the first and second tangent lines is non-parallel to a primary pull direction of the fastener tab.

  • Publication number: 20040230184
Abstract: An absorbent article is provided that includes a fluid permeable top sheet and a transfer layer disposed adjacent the top sheet. A first layer is disposed adjacent the transfer layer. The first layer includes an absorbent composite having a first density. A second layer is disposed adjacent the first layer and includes an absorbent having a second density. The first density is greater than the second density such that a ratio of fluid retained by the first layer relative to fluid retained by the second layer is greater than 1.0. A fluid impermeable back sheet is disposed adjacent to the second layer. The ratio is desirably approximately 3.0. Alternatively, the absorbent article includes the first layer having an absorbent composite with a basis weight ranging from approximately 150 grams per square meter to 170 grams per square meter. The second layer includes an absorbent having a basis weight ranging from approximately 130 grams per square meter to 150 grams per square meter.

  • Patent number: 6740071
Abstract: A fastener tab for securing absorbent garments having a first elastic region that extends laterally outward from a waist region of the garment, a second elastic region that extends laterally outward from the first elastic region, and a grip that is attached to an outboard portion of the second elastic region. The first elastic region has a greater stretch resistance than the second elastic region. The fastener tab may have a substantially inelastic region interposed between the first elastic region and the second elastic region.

  • Publication number: 20030167049
Abstract: An absorbent article is provided that comprises a main body having a first main body waist portion, a second main body waist portion and a crotch region disposed between the first and second main body waist portions. The main body has orthogonal longitudinal and lateral axes. The absorbent article further comprises a pair of side panels, each side panel connecting the first main body waist portion to the second main body waist portion. The first main body waist portion, the second main body waist portion and the side panels collectively define a waist opening edge and two leg opening edges. Each side panel is formed from a first side portion extending laterally outward from the first main body waist portion and a second side portion extending laterally outward from the second main body waist portion.

  • Publication number: 20030139725
Abstract: A fastener tab is provided for an absorbent garment having longitudinally opposite waist regions when laid flat. The fastener tab has a first elastic region for attaching to one of the waist regions of the garment and having a first stretch resistance, a dead zone adjacent to the first elastic region, a second elastic region adjacent to the dead zone and having a second stretch resistance, and a gripping zone attached to the second elastic region. The dead zone has substantially more stretch resistance than the first and second elastic regions, and the first stretch resistance is at least as great as the second stretch resistance.

  • Publication number: 20030083635
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to an elastomeric side panel that is suitable for use in or on a disposable absorbent article. The elastomeric side panel is formed from an elastomeric material that has multidirectional stretch features enabling it to stretch in the longitudinal and lateral directions. The side panel has a first waist edge and a crotch edge that are substantially parallel to one another while in the relaxed condition. A fastening device is associated with the elastomeric side panel. A disposable absorbent article including the elastomeric side panel, a method of making the article, and a method of applying the article to a user, also are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20030055394
Abstract: The present invention provides an absorbent article having first and second waist regions, and a crotch region between the first and second waist regions. The article generally comprises a topsheet, a backsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet. At least one fastening element each is attached to a pair of tabs that extend laterally away from the first waist region. The fastening elements attach to one or more target devices that are located in the second waist region to form a pant-like garment on a wearer. A pair of grips are attached to opposite lateral sides of the first waist region. Each grip is attached in an attachment area located inboard of at least one of the respective fastening elements.

  • Publication number: 20020138065
Abstract: The garment of the present invention has a waist band with a crotch component that can be permanently attached to the back of the waist band and releasably attached to the front of the waist band. The crotch fits between the user's legs during use and the waist band wraps around the user's waist. The garment may have a one-, two-, or three-piece construction. The garment also has an absorbent core disposed generally in the crotch region. At least part of the interior surfaces of the garment are liquid-pervious to allow fluids to be absorbed into the absorbent core. The exterior surfaces of the garment are generally liquid-impervious, to prevent the fluid in the absorbent core from being released from the garment. The garment of the present invention may be donned quickly, easily, and with a minimum amount of exposure to unsanitary conditions or embarrassment. The garment of the present invention may also be donned by persons with limited use of their hands.
