  • Patent number: 6293285
Abstract: A device for styling hair in which a plurality of spacers are slidably mounted on parallel, longitudinally-disposed elastic strands which, when not in use, are normally not under tension. In the preferred embodiment, the spacers (e.g., beads) preferably are of at least two significantly different sizes and are disposed in a pattern according to which each bead (other than the two end beads) is adjacent to two beads of a different size or color thus facilitating identification when the device is being mounted on the hair at the back of a person's head. The number of spacers preferably is at least equal to one plus the number of locks of hair selected for inclusion and retention in a particular geometric styling configuration.

  • Patent number: 6003522
Abstract: Hair styling accessories including a puffing member specially adapted for shaping hair into a puffed condition. Also included is a specially shaped barrette which is adapted for cooperative combination with the puffing member to position and retain the puffing member in a desired location as well as to provide for separating and manipulating hair in strands as may be desired for a variety of coiffures. The puffing member includes a main section having generally symmetrically convex front and back surfaces to present a puffed appearance. Essentially centrally positioned within the main section there is disposed a thin sheet of malleable or deformable material (e.g., 0.006 inch thick tin foil such as is used for fins in air conditioners) it adapted for manipulation so that the shape of the main section can be altered within a range suitable for a variety of hair styling applications.

  • Patent number: 5553631
Abstract: A hair styling device comprising an elongated shaped outer covering, a deformable elongated structure within the interior of said device capable of being repeatedly bent to form said device into a variety of shapes, and an essentially centrally located elongated opening within the material to expose a central region of the deformable elongated structure, the essentially centrally located elongated opening being adapted for partial withdrawal of the central portion of the deformable structure to permit hair to be passed through a region lying between the withdrawn portion of the deformable structure and the elongated opening.

  • Patent number: 5544666
Abstract: A hair styling device comprising a resilient member of elongated material, the device having at its upper extremity a pair of juxtaposed apertures joined by a raised hump. The device includes an additional plurality of apertures formed in a lower serpentine shaped extension. Locks of hair are extended through the apertures and held in place while the user is braiding them. Thus, multiple locks can conveniently be braided by the user with two hands only, thus obviating the necessity for assistance from a third party. The invention also includes a method of braiding hair utilizing the foregoing device.
