The methods comprise the steps of gathering data concerning parameters of an input signal, determining whether the signal is at a level, and performing additional functions if it is determined that the signal is at the level. Determining the signal level includes determining one of signal-to-noise ratio, bit error rate, signal strength and uncorrected packet count. Performing additional functions comprises scanning a frequency space of the signal.

Abstract: There are provided a method and apparatus for power management in a mobile device. The apparatus includes a mode detector and a power manager. The mode detector is for detecting a current operating mode of the mobile device. The power manager (120) is for managing a power consumption of the mobile device based on the detected current operating mode. The power manager activates or deactivates at least one digital television function of the mobile device to manage the power consumption of the mobile device.

Abstract: The mobile acquisition of digital terrestrial television programs in the presence of multiple transmission areas is performed by using a combination of static topology information and dynamic information within the digital stream. Static topology of the transmission cells in a particular geographic area is used to identify potential adjacent transmission cells offering the same digital terrestrial broadcast (DTB) services. Dynamic PSI information as to a particularly frequency in an identified adjacent transmission cell is acquired and used to provide seamless transition of the DTB services to the mobile video device as they move from one transmission cell to another.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for controlling power in a mobile device having two receivers operable in combination in a diversity mode. The apparatus includes a signal monitor and analyzer for monitoring and analyzing a signal concurrently received by the two receivers to determine whether or not one of the two receivers can be powered down while still maintaining a threshold quality of the signal for a reception of the signal by the other one of the two receivers. The apparatus further includes a power manager, in signal communication with the signal monitor and analyzer, for powering off at least the one of the two receivers based on an analysis result from the signal monitor and analyzer.
