Abstract: An approach is provided for increasing the functionality of a user device when the device is in an, at least in part, locked state. The approach involves presentation of a first user interface and rendering of at least a portion of a second user interface associated with the first user interface while the user device is in an, at least in part, locked state wherein the second user interface is associated with one or more applications and/or one or more services. Further, one or more interactions with the first user interface and/or with the at least a portion of the second user interface are detected and processed for at least changing the device to an, at least in part, unlocked state.

Abstract: An approach is provided for multi-item searching. A searching platform receives an input at a device for specifying one or more search criteria. The searching platform then causes, at least in part, a search for one or more services based, at least in part, on the one or more search criteria, and a presentation of a user interface including an animation based, at least in part, on the search, one or more results of the search, the one or more services, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: An apparatus, method and computer program product are provided for providing a cursor for indicating context data in a mapping application. An electronic device may display a map to a user via a mapping application having a cursor. A user may provide input selecting a type of context data to be represented by the cursor. The cursor may be positioned at a location on the map, and the electronic device may obtain context data based on the user input relating to the position and area proximate the position of the cursor on the map. The electronic device may then update a representation of the cursor using visual and other indicia to reflect the context data.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are herein provided for modification of routes based on user input. A method may include causing calculation of a route in a map. The method may further include receiving input indicating a location along the route and a user preference associated with avoidance of the location. The method may further include determining, based at least in part on the input, a modification to the route. Corresponding apparatuses and computer program products are also provided.
