    Abstract: A cuffed tracheotomy tube having an aperture in the wall thereof and removable insert means to engage and seal the aperture in an airtight manner. With the insert means in position within the tube to close and seal the aperture and the cuff inflated a patient is ventilated by a ventilator. Upon removal of the insert means the patient can ventilate himself in a normal, natural manner spontaneously through the nose and mouth.
