  • Patent number: 7070190
Abstract: A wheeled luggage case that is tilted for towing is provided with a retractable and, optionally, telescoping handle (4) assembly that is withdrawn from the interior of the case to an extended vertical position at the intersection of the top and rear walls, from which it is angularly rotated by the user to a position that minimizes the vertical force that is required to support the hand grip to comfortably tow the luggage. Preferred angular displacements for a wide range of users and loads positioned in and on the luggage case have been found to be at about 17° and 35° from the vertical position.

  • Publication number: 20040201188
Abstract: A mobile article carrier is disclosed for transporting articles wherein the article carrier is movably supported by at least a pair of rotatably mounted wheels, each wheel including an elastomeric synthetic or natural rubber tire shell filled with a compressible material to promote relatively cushioned quiet transport of the article carrier over hard and irregular surfaces, with effective shock absorption. In one embodiment the wheels are pneumatically filled with air at one atmosphere or air under pressure. The article carrier contemplated is an article of luggage, computer case, or the like, which may be directly or indirectly supported by at least one axle which is in turn, supported on the rotatable wheels. In another embodiment the tire shells are filled with a natural or synthetic rubber or combinations thereof, of predetermined resilient compressible character to provide shock absorption and quiet operation of the wheels over hard irregular surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6494321
Abstract: A pair of complementary securement members are provided for securing an article of portable equipment, such as a laptop or palm held computer, within a portable carrying case. Since the thickness of the securement member attached to the base of the portable computer may interfere with the operation of non-slip frictional members which conventionally depend from the base of the portable computer, supplemental frictional members are provided in conjunction with the securement member. The supplemental frictional members project beyond the remaining portion of the securement member to engage a supporting surface (e.g., table or desk) when the portable computer is removed from its portable carrying case.

  • Patent number: 6202808
Abstract: A rolling case is disclosed which includes a rolling apparatus, such as an elongated roller assembly, along its bottom wall and an extensible handle which may be moved above the top wall when it is desired to utilize the case in its rolling mode of operation. The rolling apparatus is recessed from an edge of the bottom wall so that it will not contact the ground surface when the case is being maintained in a stationary mode on the ground surface. The elongated roller assembly may preferably be manually removed and has an intermediate support.

  • Patent number: 5230408
Abstract: An article of wheeled luggage is provided with retractible outriggers that are biased in a direction for them to extend beyond the lateral sides of the article of luggage, thus to provide stabilization for the luggage and militate against accidental tipping over of the luggage during towing of the article of wheeled luggage, the outriggers being movable against the resilient bias, in the event that an arm of the outrigger encounters an obstacle. Dual or multiple such outriggers can be provided for a large article of luggage, the outriggers being interconnected in the form of a parallelogram. A pull cord is provided for retracting the outriggers against the resilient bias for storage of the article of luggage.
