  • Patent number: 6511192
Abstract: A mirror assembly in which the mirror housing and multi-function backing plate provide various useful functions. The multi-function backing plate supports not only a conventional reflective element but also supports a wide angle reflective element. The wide angle reflective element may be adjustable. The multi-function backing plate supports an indicator light assembly so that the mirror assembly can provide an indicator light function. The multi-function backing plate also support a recessible spot or approach lamp which, when the mirror is in an operative position, is recessed within the housing. When the mirror is in an inoperative state, the multi-function backing plate can be rotated so as to expose the spot or approach light. Various light pipe configurations enable transmission of light projected from a light source mounted to and behind the multi-function backing plate to project light through the light pipe externally to the mirror housing to provide an indicator light function.

  • Publication number: 20010013981
Abstract: A rear view mirror for a vehicle has a reflective member mounted for angular movement about a pivot axis perpendicular to a plane containing both a first line and a second line. The first line bisects the angle between an incident ray and a reflection of said incident ray extending to a first end of the major axis of a vertical section through the eyellipse, and the second line bisects the angle between said incident ray and a reflection of said incident ray extending to a second end of said major axis.

  • Patent number: 4918920
Abstract: The device comprises a manipulator (148) whose body (149) houses deformable positioning transmitter bags (145 to 147) each connected by a corresponding hydraulic circuit to a positioning receiver comprising a deformable bag (130 to 132, 133 to 135), whose increases in volume in response to the compression exerted by the user on at least one of the positioning transmitter bags (145 to 147 control a change of the positioning of at least one controlled member. The device may contain a connector connecting the transmitter bags to the receiver bags, and also path switching hydraulic circuits permitting the selective control of one of two different members by a single manipulator. Application in particular to the control of external rear view mirrors on vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4900142
Abstract: A remotely controlled rear view mirror assembly for a motor vehicle consists of a base adapted to be mounted on a vehicle body, a casing mouonted on the base and a reflective member mounted in the casing for angular movement about two mutually perpendicular axes. A control member is mounted on the base so as to engage with three elongate members each of which has two end portions of cross section adapted to resist bending about first and second mutually perpendicular transverse directions, interconnected by an intermediate portion having a cross-section adapted to permit bending in the first transverse direction. Guide means mounted in the casing are arranged to direct one end of each elongate member into abutment with a surface of the reflective member facing the interior of the casing, and to direct the other end of each elongate member through an opening in the casing facing the base so as to abut against the control member.
