Patent number: 8459984Abstract: A waste heat recovery system is coupled to a flare or exhaust stack of, for example, a landfill gas treatment system, to recover at least a portion of the energy within the exhaust produced by the gas treatment system and provides the recovered energy either indirectly or directly to a secondary process, such as a wastewater treatment process, to thereby reduce the amount of energy needed to be otherwise input into the secondary process. For indirect transfer of energy the waste heat recovery system includes a transfer pipe connected between the exhaust stack of a primary process and a heat exchange unit while an induction fan connected to the transfer pipe operates to create a draft within the transfer pipe to facilitate movement of some of the exhaust gas from the exhaust stack of the primary process to the heat exchange unit.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2005Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Heartland Technology Partners LLCInventors: Bernard F. Publication number: 20120318009Abstract: A cooling tower includes an evaporator vessel, a gas delivery tube partially disposed within the evaporator vessel and a liquid inlet that provides liquid to the evaporator vessel. A weir is disposed within the evaporator vessel adjacent the gas delivery tube to form a first liquid circulation path between a first weir end and a wall of the evaporator vessel and a second fluid circulation path between a second weir end and another wall of the evaporator vessel. During operation, gas introduced through the tube mixes with the liquid and the combined gas and liquid flow at a high rate with a high degree of turbulence along the first and second circulation paths defined around the weir, thereby promoting vigorous mixing and intimate contact between the gas and the liquid. This turbulent flow leads to a more efficient and complete heat and mass transfer between the gas and the liquid.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2012Publication date: December 20, 2012Applicant: HEARTLAND TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS LLCInventors: Bernard F. Publication number: 20120186451Abstract: An exhaust gas plume mitigation process and system includes either mixing secondary heat into a moisture rich exhaust gas stream, or diverting a moisture rich exhaust gas stream into a primary exhaust stack having hot exhaust gases flowing therethrough. Moisture rich exhaust gas from a liquid concentrator may be diverted into a high temperature exhaust stack of an engine, a generator, or a flare. The high temperature exhaust gases from the engine, the generator, or the flare raise the temperature of the moisture rich exhaust gas from the concentrator. The high temperature exhaust gases from the engine, the generator, or the flare are also lower in moisture content, so that the moisture rich exhaust gas from the concentrator is diluted by the drier high temperature exhaust gas. As a result, the mixed gas is less likely to develop a moisture plume upon exit to the atmosphere.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 19, 2012Publication date: July 26, 2012Applicant: HEARTLAND TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS, LLCInventors: Bernard F. Duesel, JR., Michael J. Rutsch, Craig Clerkin
