  • Patent number: 6080248
Abstract: The invention relates to novel non-detonatable pyrotechnic materials which have a thickness of less than 500 .mu.m or a mass of less than 15 mg, whose combustion is self-sustainable after localized initiation by an electrical power of between 150 mW and 800 mW, for a time of between 20 ms and 600 ms, and which comprise from 25 to 80% by weight of an energy-releasing binder based on poly(glycidyl azide), or on poly(3,3-bis[azidomethyl]oxetane) or on a polyester or polyether and on at least one energy-releasing plasticizer, from 10 to 70% by weight of ammonium perchlorate, the particle size of which is between 0.5 and 30 .mu.m, and from 0% to 45% by weight of at least one nitramine. These novel materials are used as miniature gas generators, miniature propulsion units or miniature heat generators.

  • Patent number: 6024811
Abstract: The present invention relates to gas-generating pyrotechnic compositions. The compositions according to the invention contain a small amount of epoxy binder, stabilized ammonium nitrate, optionally potassium perchlorate or an organic oxidant containing nitrogen and, characteristically, a reactive organic nitrogen compound selected from nitroguanidine, guanidinium nitrate and oxamide. This reactive nitrogen compound may advantageously be combined with cupric oxide. The compositions according to the invention produce nitrogen-rich gases with very low levels of nitrogen oxides, and find their preferred application in the form of pellets as pyrotechnic charges in gas generators for pyrotechnic extinguishers, for devices designed to inflate external structures or for devices designed to protect the occupants of a motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5747729
Abstract: The present invention relates to solid propellants with high specific impulse and/or high impulse per unit volume, more particularly so-called "clean" propellants, that is to say containing no constituents whose combustion gives halogen-containing products or liquid or solid products. The solid propellants according to the invention comprise especially a binder, at least one energetic filler and various additives; the energetic filler is chosen essentially from the group of dinitrated bifurazanes consisting of 3,3'-azoxybis (4-nitrofurazane), 3,3'-azobis(4-nitrofurazane) and 3,3'-bis(4-nitrofurazane).

  • Patent number: 5525171
Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of gas-generating pyrotechnic compositions intended for motor vehicle safety. The compositions according to the invention include:an oxygen-containing thermoplastic binder and especially a block aliphatic copolymer of formula: ##STR1## in which: PA is a polyamide block,PE is a polyether block,n is a number between 2 and 10,an energetic plasticizer which is a polyglycidyl azide,an oxidizing charge in which at least 85% of its weight consists of ammonium nitrate. The compositions according to the invention burn without solid residues and can be employed in gas generators without a filter chamber.

  • Patent number: 5458706
Abstract: The object of the present invention is novel solid pyrotechnic compositions with a loaded and plasticized thermoplastic binder, which can be used notably as propellants with non-polluting combustion, as propellants with a high combustion rate or as compositions generating non-toxic gases for air-bags.The plasticizer for the binder comprises a polybutadiene having a number average molecular weight of between 1500 and 7500 and having, added to some of its ethylenic non-saturations, silylferrocene groups.

  • Patent number: 4747891
Abstract: The binder/charge adhesive of the present invention makes it possible to improve the bonding between the charges and the polyurethane binder of a propellent composition. This agent is an aminoaziridinylphosphine oxide of general formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are identical or different and denote a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl radical. The present invention finds application particularly in the field of the manufacture of solid propellent compositions.
