Publication number: 20070146720Abstract: In accordance with the principles of the invention, a lamellar grating interferometer breaks the radiation down into its wavelength components. The two sets of teeth of the grating are moved relative to each other. The spectral output of the interferometer is focused on an array of detectors and data is stored for a large number of positions of the grating teeth. The collected data is then Fourier transformed to recover the spectrum of the radiation.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 9, 2006Publication date: June 28, 2007Applicant: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: James Cox, Roland Wood, Bernard Fritz, Fouad Nusseibeh

Publication number: 20060274431Abstract: An optical lens system that focuses both a first band of wavelengths and a second band of wavelengths onto a common focal plane. In some cases, the lens system includes a first region for focusing a first band of wavelengths onto a focal plane, and a second region for focusing a second band of wavelengths onto the same focal plane. Depending on the wavelengths and materials involved, the first region may or may not focus the second band of wavelengths onto the focal plane, and in some cases, may or may not even transmit the second band of wavelengths to the focal plane. Likewise, the second region may or may not focus the first band of wavelengths onto the focal plane, and in some cases, may or may not even transmit the first band of wavelengths onto the focal plane, but this is not required. In some embodiments, an additional lens may be provided between the lens system and the common focal plane to help focus the first band of wavelengths and the second band of wavelengths onto the common focal plane.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2005Publication date: December 7, 2006Applicant: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Roland Wood, Bernard Fritz

Publication number: 20060103840Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling chemical identification of individual particles, cells of molecules by obtaining a Raman spectrum of a particle, cell or molecule as it flows past a sensing point in a flow cytometer. The particles, which may be cells or molecules, are associated with a suitable noble metal colloid or colloidal aggregate. Cellular particles may be associated with gold or silver colloidal particles by ultra-sonic sonification while in a sample preparation reservoir containing the gold or silver colloidal suspension. The colloid associated particles are then hydrodynamically focused into a single file by a fluid control module. The surface-enhance Raman Spectrum of individual particles are obtained by illuminating the particle with a laser as the particle flows past a sensing point and gathering the light that is non-elastically scattered (Raman scattered) by the particle. The surface-enhanced Raman spectrum is then analyzed to identify the particle.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2004Publication date: May 18, 2006Applicant: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Bernard Fritz, Aravind Padmanabhan, Cleopatra Cabuz

Publication number: 20060066852Abstract: A system for detecting when a core stream in a channel of a flow device is adequate for sufficient data accession. The system may determine the time period from the beginning of a sample run in a channel of a flow device to when the core stream is adequate. Data of detected FALS versus SALS light scattered by particles of the core stream may be plotted in data frames during a series of time intervals. The quality of the grouping and count rate of the data may indicate which frame and corresponding time interval reveal an adequate core stream.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2004Publication date: March 30, 2006Inventors: Bernard Fritz, Aravind Padmanabhan, Peter Reutiman

Publication number: 20060066840Abstract: A mechanism for moving and positioning a light source so that its light impinges a target as it moves on or off axis of an optical system. A detector may receive scattered light at a same position whether the light impinging the target is on or off axis due to, for example, a telecentric optical system. Further, the light may be positioned so that the detector is maximally impinged with scattered light. An output may go to a processor that sends a signal to the light source to move the emitted light so as to continually impinge the target as it moves on or off axis. An array of light sources may used in lieu of the moving light source. To move the light beam, another light at another position in the array may be selected to replace a previously selected light source.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2004Publication date: March 30, 2006Inventor: Bernard Fritz

Publication number: 20060023207Abstract: A cytometer having two or more chambers or regions in a containment structure of sheathing fluid that may be used to provide hydrodynamic focusing of another fluid having particles to be observed. The latter fluid may be a core stream which may have its lateral position in a flow or measurement channel affected by control of at least one of the parameters of the several segments of the sheathing fluid. The lateral position of the core stream may be aligned with a light source and detector for a count and observation of the particles. Electrical signals from the detector may be fed back to a processor which may control one or more parameters of the sheathing fluid in the various chambers or regions via pumps, valves, and flow and pressure sensors. This control of parameters may provide for the positioning of the core stream. This cytometer may be miniaturized.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2004Publication date: February 2, 2006Inventors: James Cox, Bernard Fritz
