  • Publication number: 20020035786
Abstract: A safety razor blade unit has a guard structure (5) which includes a strip (10) of elastomeric material e.g. with projections such as fins (12) or tubes (35), and a backstop (13) disposed between the elastomeric strip (10) and the edge (20) of a leading blade (2), the backstop including a rigid wall (15) integrally molded with the blade unit housing (1) and a resiliently deformable portion (17) integral with the elastomeric strip (10) and adapted to yield under forces experienced during shaving by being compressed against the rigid wall (15) or flexing downwardly.

  • Publication number: 20020000040
Abstract: A guard of a safety razor blade unit has a lubricating strip (24) disposed in front of a backstop (23), and the edge of the backstop which contacts the skin during shaving is castellated to define channels (30) separated by lands (31). The channels (30) enable an effective layer of lubricant to remain on the skin until the blade positioned to the rear of the backstop contacts the skin in the course of a shaving stroke.

  • Patent number: 6298557
Abstract: A safety razor blade unit having at least one blade with a cutting edge which is moved across the surface of the skin being shaved by a handle to which the blade unit is attached. The blade unit may be mounted detachably on the handle. The razor blade unit has a guard which defines a surface for contacting the skin in front of the blade and a cap for contacting the skin behind the blade. The skin engaging portion of the guard has spaced projections extending upwardly from a base and formed of a resiliently flexible material. At least some of the projections have cross-sections with concave sides defining a recess opening.

  • Patent number: 6295734
Abstract: A safety razor blade unit has a guard (2), a cap (3) and three parallel blades (11, 12, 13) mounted between the guard and cap, at least one of the blades, guard and cap being movable from an at rest (non-shaving) position to modify a blade exposure dimension to attain a target blade geometry, at which shaving is initiated, in which the exposure of the first blade (11) is not greater than zero and the exposure of the third blade (13) is not less than zero. At least one of the cap (3) and guard (2) can be movable against the force of a spring (21 or 20) from an at rest position in which all the blades between the guard and cap have their cutting edges disposed below a plane tangential to the skin contacting surfaces of the guard and cap. The blades can be independently sprung or carried for movement in unison on a carrier pivotally mounted in a frame of the blade unit.

  • Patent number: 6216349
Abstract: A safety razor blade unit including a guard, a cap, and a group of first, second, and third blades with parallel sharpened edges located between the guard and cap, the blades being resiliently movably mounted and having an at rest condition in which the first blade defines a blade edge nearest the guard having a negative exposure between about −0.04 mm and about −0.06 mm, the third blade defines a blade edge nearest the cap having a positive exposure between about +0.04 mm and about +0.06 mm, and the second blade defines a blade edge having an exposure of about zero.

  • Patent number: 6212777
Abstract: A safety razor blade unit including a guard, a cap, and a group of three blades with parallel sharpened edges located between the guard and cap, the first blade defining a blade edge nearest the guard having a negative exposure not less than −0.2 mm, and the third blade defining a blade edge nearest the cap having a positive exposure of not greater than +0.2 mm, the second blade defining a blade edge having an exposure not less than the exposure of the first blade and not greater than the exposure of the third blade.

  • Patent number: 5794354
Abstract: A safety razor including a blade unit with a guard, three blades, a cap with a lubricating strip, a front pivot and a substantially unobstructed rinsing space under the blades between the guard and cap.

  • Patent number: 5533263
Abstract: A safety razor comprises a blade unit mounted on a handle for pivotal movement in one direction from a rest position, the pivot axis being arranged to underlie the guard surface. In the rest position, the entire handle is disposed forwardly of a plane containing the trailing edge of the guard surface. The handle is pivoted to the blade unit by connection pieces having stub axles engaged in apertures in the blade unit, and edges bearing against cam faces on the blade unit to urge the blade unit to the rest position, the connection pieces being carried by wings either acted upon by springs or having a resilient form.
