  • Patent number: 5285046
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for depositing particulate or powder-like material on the surface of a substrate. The apparatus comprises a hollow tube-like chamber consisting of a heat-resistant material, in which a plasma torch is generated. By means of a device for supplying solid particulate or powder-like material, the material is molten in the plasma torch and deposited on the surface of the substrate. In order to achieve a uniform temperature distribution in the plasma torch, the apparatus comprises at least two induction coils located at the outer surface of the hollow tube-like member and a high frequency generator means having at least two generator sections. A first of the at least two generator sections generates energy with a first higher frequency and a second of the at least two generator sections generates energy with a second lower frequency.

  • Patent number: 5250780
Abstract: The apparatus serves for treating workpieces by means of a plasma torch in a gaseous, preferably in an inert gaseous atmosphere. For this purpose, there is provided a gas-tight container and, in the interior of the container, a plasma gun as well as a cooling member for cooling the treated workpiece by a gaseous cooling medium stream. The cooling medium is a gas circulating in a closed circuit. Thus, the cooling gas can continuously used because heat is removed from the gas in a heat exchanger. A cooling operation can be realized in this way in temperature regions which are much higher than if liquefied gas is used.

  • Patent number: 4952144
Abstract: An apparatus for forming ceramic or metal powders has a plasma generator, a source of material in the form of powder particles and a projection torch for passing the material through the plasma to melt the powder particles and then projecting a stream of plasma and material via an outlet. A container is provided for containing the projected stream. A plurality of spray diffusers are arranged to diffuse a spray of cryogenic liquid into a space through which the projected stream travels, whereby the projected stream is quenched. A console controls the flow rates of the powder particles and the plasma into the projection torch.
