Abstract: A method, system, and storage medium and system for managing computer system performance utilizing information acquired over the Internet is provided. The system comprises a user system having existing installed components that include software, hardware devices, system upgrades, and/or a peripheral device. The system also includes a consolidated monitoring tool executing on the workstation that monitors activities occurring on the workstation with respect to the existing installed components. The system further includes a communications link to a vendor system that supplies components and/or services to the user system. Upon encountering a minor error, the consolidated monitoring tool searches a database for the minor error, displays a corresponding explanation of the minor error for a user via translation tables stored in the workstation, and displays a corresponding set of action items for resolving the minor error or preventing a future occurrence of the minor error.

Abstract: A system for managing computer system performance is provided. The system includes a workstation including existing installed components that includes software, hardware device, system upgrade, and/or a peripheral device. The system also includes a consolidated monitoring tool executing on the workstation. Upon installing a new component or a new service, the tool queries the workstation for an inventory of the existing components, acquires vendor information for the new component, and builds a database of information. The information includes product information relating to the existing components. The tool also connects to a web site for a vendor associated with the new component via the link, retrieves product information for the new component from the web site, verifies requirements and compatibility of the new component against existing installated components, determines an optimum configuration for the workstation, and configures the workstation in accordance with the optimum configuration.

The system comprises a customer system, including: a server executing a plurality of software tools including a problem management tool; a client system in communication with the server via a communications link; a data storage device including a protocols definition database; and a link to a vendor system. The problem management tool includes: a user interface; a service monitor; a service application; and a service installer. The problem management tool facilitates activities conducted by the service monitor, service application, service installer. Activities conducted include monitoring the system operation of the software tools executed on the server, sending error data to the service application; and notifying a system programmer.

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to a method and system for managing computer performance. The system comprises a server connected to a network link and a data storage device in communication with the server. The data storage device provides a repository for a system activity database which stores activity records and environmental records created by a system monitor application, as well as an auxiliary database which stores historical records transferred from the system activity database. The system also includes a client system in communication with the server, a user interface for the system monitor program that is executable by the server, and a system activity analysis program executable by the server. Upon execution of the system activity analysis program, the server searches the system activity and auxiliary databases, retrieves data relating to a request for analysis of a task, and presents the data to a user on the client system.
