  • Patent number: 5589730
Abstract: A lighting and/or indicating apparatus for a motor vehicle, of the type comprising an external light transmitting element and a base arranged behind the latter, typically consists of a lighting and indicating cluster. The light transmitting element comprises an outer panel, the base comprises an inner wall, and the two walls together constitute a thin gas-tight envelope and define at least one closed cavity. This cavity, or each cavity, contains two electrodes and a suitable gas under low pressure, the apparatus having means for applying voltage for starting and maintaining a luminescent gas discharge in the cavity, so that the envelope itself constitutes at least one light of the gas discharge type. The appearance and light output are improved, and the light beams emitted are highly homogeneous.

  • Patent number: 5490048
Abstract: An indicator light unit for a motor vehicle comprises a support element, at least one cover element, and at least one light emitting diode (LED), having a body, arranged between the support element and the cover element. The light unit comprises at least one elementary module having a frame, carrying at least one LED, the cover element being fixed to the frame. The frame comprises: an aperture associated with each LED for passage of the light emitted by the LED, each of the latter being located in line with a corresponding one of these apertures, the cover element or elements being in facing relationship with these apertures; and means for fixing the module on the support element.

  • Patent number: 5436809
Abstract: An indicating light unit for a motor vehicle has a support plate, an optic extending along the support plate, and a plurality of elementary luminous modules each comprising a light emitting diode. Each module comprises at least one light emitting diode mounted on a frame and covered with a cover element, the modules being juxtaposed to each other in predetermined positions on the support plate and being connected electrically to a common electrical supply source. The unit is of low thickness and gives a homogeneous light field.

  • Patent number: 5373280
Abstract: A vehicle signal light comprises a support element carrying electroluminescent elements on its front face, together with an optical collimating element. Each electroluminescent element has supply terminals and a semiconductor light source, the electrical supply circuit interconnecting the terminals being arranged on the rear face of the support element, and the latter being non-planar and so shaped to allow mounting of all of the electroluminescent elements in such a way that they are all oriented in the same inclined direction.

  • Patent number: 5161885
Abstract: The invention provides an intermediate screen for a signal light, the screen being of the type constituted by a plate for passing a flux of light, and including a set of light-deflecting grooves on at least one of its faces, the grooves being essentially concentric and each being defined by two faces of essentially rectilinear profile and of given angles of inclination relative to the normal to the plate. For at least one subset of adjacent grooves, the angles of inclination of the faces defining each groove vary from one groove to another and are such that the sum of said angles is constant.
