  • Patent number: 7108099
Abstract: A safety anchor (20) for securing a user to a substantially vertical safety structure, e.g., elevator cable (21). Safety anchor (20) includes a back plate (26) to which are pivotally mounted a roller (28), inner cam assembly (30) and outer cam assembly (32). Each cam assembly (30,32) includes a lever arm (50,36) to which is mounted a cam (52,42). A user (25) is secured by means of carabiners and a short tether cable, for example, to the free ends of lever arms (50,36). Cable (21) threads between cams (52,42) which are pivoted to compress the cable in response to downward force exerted against the lever arms (50, 36).

  • Patent number: 6902031
Abstract: A safety device (100) includes a base (110), a handle (120) pivotally mounted on the base, a cleat (130) pivotally mounted on the base, and a cover (140) pivotally mounted on the base. A rope (99) is routed between the cleat and a bearing surface on the base, then between the cleat and a hub on the handle, then around the hub and between the hub and another bearing surface on the base, then between the cleat and the hub again. The handle may be squeezed against the base to control or limit descent along the rope, and in the event of excessively rapid descent, the device is urged toward a locked position relative to the rope.

  • Patent number: 6227329
Abstract: A base plate 110 is adapted to be secured to a support structure 20. A transverse plate 120 is secured to the base plate 110 and extends outward from the base plate 110. A slot 122 is formed in the transverse plate 120 to receive a ring 130. A notch 123 is formed in a sidewall of the slot 122 to seat the ring 130 within the slot 122. The ring 130 is adapted to anchor an end of a safety line 40 regardless of the orientation of the base plate 110 relative to the desired orientation of the safety line 40.
