  • Patent number: 4832783
Abstract: Application of heat transfer labels to articles. A roller having a smooth elastomeric coating turns against a moving web. The web carries heated labels which are transferred to the roller. The roller, with a transferred label thereon, turns against a moving article, and transfers the label to same. The elastomeric coating conforms to the article surface.

  • Patent number: 4752652
Abstract: An anti-short bushing, for use between a tubular metal sheath and an electrical conductor carried within the metal sheath, comprising a tubular insulative unit configured to be inserted between the sheath and the conductor. The tubular insulative unit is formed as a single molded piece having three connected segments. Two of the segments are generally semi-cylindrical and each has a shoulder projecting radially therefrom at one end. The two segments are connected by an elongated hinge which permits them to be folded relative to one another to form a tubular configuration with their shoulders forming a partial circumferential shoulder. The third segment is connected to the elongated hinge by a second hinge to permit the third segment to be rotated to project radially outwardly so as to form with the two shoulders of the other two segments a complete circumferential shoulder.

  • Patent number: 4661458
Abstract: A device is described which provides a totally enclosed and secure environment for the culture of cells and for the production of biologicals, pharmaceuticals, and other cell-derived products of commercial value. The device comprises several modules of differing functions: regulating the cellular growth environment, providing a suitable cell growth substrate or environment, or separating of desired product form interfering substances. Each module comprises a series of membranes separated by a solid support material which is channeled to provide a series of parallel capillaries for the flow of nutrients, environmental regulating fluids, or gas exchange. The structure and composition of the separating membranes limits the nature, rate, and size of the particular material exchanged across an individual membrane into or from an adjacent compartment. The capillaries are so dimensioned that the nutrients and gases are diffused over distances typical of human tissue.

  • Patent number: 4403463
Abstract: A novel process for packaging goods within stretch-type plastic films. The process comprises the steps of preforming the package elements so that on-line sealing and long cooling cycles are not necessary during rapid packaging procedures when the film is extended under high stress. The required extension is achieved by the use of film-band spreading means which have low friction surfaces thereby minimizing any local stress on the expanding package material.

  • Patent number: 4396154
Abstract: An improved valve, and assembly incorporating the valve, which finds particular use in welding and cutting torch control applications. The valve comprises a quick, slide-actuated, on-off control which dispenses with the need to adjust the flow of gases to the torch each time flame start-up is required. The valve also incorporates a variable pilot setting which includes an easily-manipulated cam-adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4304332
Abstract: A novel package means especially useful in packaging a plurality of canned goods, e.g. soft drinks and the like. The package comprises two tensioned film wraps, arranged at right angles to one another about the package item, and wherein one wrap serves as a handle means.

  • Patent number: 4220272
Abstract: Precision cutting means adapted for use in cutting, e.g., small holes along a continuous web. The novel apparatus by which the process of the invention is to be carried out comprises opposed cutting means, mounted on either side of a path through which a web to be processed is moved. Each cuts only part way through the web, the cuts from each side being in exact register and leaving a blank which is secure until it is removed by positive mechanical action.

  • Patent number: 4101423
Abstract: A tubular element for removing particulate matter and bacteria of dimensions in excess of a predetermined value from a fluid flowing from the interior to the exterior of the filtration element has a first inner layer of a highly porous material that has a low coefficient of sliding friction, and a second layer of a microporous filtration material having pores of substantially uniform size. The element may include an outer support layer of a porous material that is not subject to shedding. In a preferred form, the inner layer is formed from a high wet strength paper, the microporous filtration layer has sufficiently small pores to remove all bacteria from the fluid, and the outer layer may be a fine porous plastic sheet material or a high wet strength, high porosity paper that is impregnated with the polymeric material that forms the microporous filtration material. The fine pore structure of the outer layer supports the fragile filtration layer.

  • Patent number: 4080294
Abstract: A filtration system is provided that directs a fluid to be filtered through a disposable tubular filtration element, supports the filtration element, and accommodates for "wet growth" of the filtration element. The system operates with an inside-to-outside forced fluid flow through the filtration element and includes a generally cylindrical housing with a fluid inlet and outlet. A perforated outer support screen is mounted within the housing and surrounds the walls of the tubular filtration element with slight clearance. Under the influence of the fluid pressure and the wet growth, the walls of the filtration element bear against the screen. A sealing and support assembly having upstream and downstream fluid guides, each carrying, in a preferred form, a pair of resilient sealing members, is positioned inside the filtration element. A rigid inner member bridges the opposing faces of the resilient member pairs.
