  • Patent number: 5743889
Abstract: A mechanism for use with a syringe to permit repeated injections of various doses has a body in which is slidably mounted a syringe piston operating rod. A plunger surrounds part of the rod and is slidably mounted in the body, a releasable screw-threaded connection being formed between the plunger and the body. An automatic one-way ball clutch interconnects the plunger and rod, and a further one-way ball clutch interconnects the body and the rod. A dose is dispensed by rotating the plunger to thread that plunger away from the further one-way clutch until a required dose is displayed through a window, the rod being held stationary by the further one-way clutch. Then, on driving the plunger forwardly, the automatic one-way ball clutch connects the plunger to the rod, so that the rod is also driven to project further from the body. Movement is limited by the forward end of the plunger by striking a cup member secured in the body.

  • Patent number: 5709662
Abstract: An assembly for automatically injecting a fluid into the body is provided. The assembly includes a drive assembly, which can be reused many times, and a disposable assembly including a sleeve which contains a syringe. The drive assembly includes a housing having an open end to which a collar is mounted. The collar includes a radially inwardly extending pawl. The sleeve includes a generally cylindrical body having a radially outwardly extending rib. The rib defines a notch which is engageable with the pawl when the disposable assembly is inserted within the drive assembly housing. Engagement of the pawl within the notch prevents the disposable assembly from being ejected from the drive assembly housing should the actuating button of the drive assembly be pushed prematurely. Ejection of the disposable assembly requires its rotation with respect to the drive assembly housing to first disengage the pawl from the notch.

  • Patent number: 5478316
Abstract: A device for automatically injecting a material into the body is disclosed. The device includes a drive assembly and a syringe assembly which is mounted to the drive assembly. The drive assembly includes a drive rod, a driver releasably coupled to the drive rod, and a constant force spring which urges the drive rod towards the syringe assembly. The spring first urges the coupled drive rod and driver along the axis of the device, causing the skin to be penetrated by the needle of the syringe assembly. The drive rod is then decoupled from the driver. The spring continues to urge the drive rod in the axial direction, whereby the drive rod engages a piston in the syringe assembly and causes the displacement of the material therein.

  • Patent number: 5020699
Abstract: Dispensing containers are described in which a metering chamber for the contents of a fluid container is mounted in the neck of the container. Openings intermediate the height of the chamber allow it to be put in communication with the container interior by a rotary movement, e.g. applied to an external closure cap. When the closure cap is rotated to open the chamber to the container interior it also adopts a sealing position preventing the escape of any of the contents. The space in the chamber above the apertures is greater than that below. Sufficient fluid can be admitted to the chamber by inverting the container, therefore, to ensure that the lower space is completely filled when the container is again turned upright. Reverse rotation closes the openings to isolate the metered fluid from the main volume of the container and can also open the chamber to the exterior to allow the metered quantity to be dispensed.

  • Patent number: 4011813
Abstract: A hand-held label dispensing and applying apparatus includes a label applying roller adjacent dispensing edge member which serves to detach individual labels from a strip of labels having spaced notches along its length. Labels are advanced from a store to the dispensing edge member by a movable member carrying barbs which engage the strip notches to carry the strips back to a second series of barbs and to print the label on the movable member by a print-head assembly. The movable member effectively forms a printing platen. When the movable member returns to its rest position, the second series of barbs draw a fresh label over the dispense member since they have become engaged with a fresh length of the strip.
