  • Publication number: 20070251141
Abstract: A method for treating a fatty acid methyl ester. The method can include mixing the fatty acid methyl ester with an amount of urea and an amount of alcohol to make (i) a urea/fatty acid methyl ester ratio of from about 0.1:1 to 1:1 wt/wt and (ii) an alcohol/fatty acid methyl ester ratio of from about 3:1 to 10:1 wt/wt; heating the fatty acid methyl ester/urea/alcohol mixture to a temperature at which a homogenous mixture is obtained, cooling the fatty acid methyl ester/urea/alcohol mixture to a temperature where a solid phase comprising a clathrate of urea and saturated fatty acid ester and a liquid phase comprising unsaturated fatty acid methyl ester are formed, and separating the solid phase from the liquid phase. The unsaturated fatty acid methyl ester is useful as a fuel resistant to gel formation at low temperature.

  • Publication number: 20070006522
Abstract: A vegetable lipid-based composition and candle comprised of a vegetable lipid component and a petroleum wax is described. The vegetable lipid component may include a triglyceride or a free fatty acid/triglyceride mixture. The vegetable lipid-based composition has properties that make it advantageous in candle production.

  • Publication number: 20050132642
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention provides a heating fuel blend comprising a petroleum based fuel and a vegetable oil. The petroleum based fuel can be selected from diesel fuel, fuel oil, and kerosene. The vegetable oil may be crude oil, degummed oil, or a mixture of crude and degummed oil and is selected from the group consisting of soybean oil, cottenseed oil, rapeseed oil, corn oil, peanut oil, sunflowerseed oil, palm kernel oil, copra oil and other oils of similar composition produced by plants. In a preferred embodiment, the vegetable oil is present in an amount greater than zero and up to about 50% by volume, in a more preferred embodiment the vegetable oil is present in an amount greater than zero and up to about 20% by volume. A preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a petroleum based fuel and a soybean oil, where the soybean oil is present in an amount greater than zero and up to about 20% by volume.
