Abstract: The invention relates to new 4-(substituted)amino-3-arylpyrrolinone derivatives of the general formula (I) ##STR1## in which X, Y, Z, n, B, M, L and A are as defined in the description, to a process and new intermediates for their preparation, and to their use as herbicides.

Abstract: Halogenomethylketones are prepared from nitro compounds by treating the latter in alcoholic solution with sodium alkoxide or potassium alkoxide, cooling to a temperature in the range -10.degree. to -100.degree. C. and then allowing the mixture to react with ozone at -10.degree. to -100.degree. C. The process is particularly suitable for the preparation of 1,1,1-trifluoroacetone from 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-nitropropane.
