  • Patent number: 6632041
Abstract: A free ink marking instrument for dispensing a fluid is disclosed. The instrument includes a feeder, a passage of reduced capillarity surrounding the feeder for conveying at least one of fluid and air to the reservoir during an increasing pressure differential between air in the reservoir and the atmosphere, a porous buffer configured for storing ink during periods of a decreasing pressure differential between air in the reservoir and the atmosphere, and a divider tube separating the buffer and the passage along a majority of the length of the buffer. The fluid and air may enter the feeder through a minor surrounding portion of the buffer during the period of the increasing pressure differential. An ink and air conveyor for use in a free ink marking instrument is also disclosed. A method for compensating for changes in ambient temperature and pressure in a free ink marking instrument is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6062758
Abstract: An ink writing implement having a writing tip, an ink reservoir and a housing component enclosing the ink reservoir, includes a molded, ink delivery unit having a plurality of disc-shaped walls, a plurality of ring-shaped pressure compensation chambers, a flat area, an ink feed channel formed by the flat area, and a parting plane extending through the flat area.

  • Patent number: 5938362
Abstract: In a writing implement for ink, having a nib and having a shaft (3) a lamination system for holding or emitting ink is arranged, which lamination system has an ink feed channel (18) which runs in a longitudinally extending lamination carrier (10). Protruding from the lamination carrier (10) is a group of transversely arranged and mutually spaced laminations (24), between which laminations (24) there is a capillary gap (20) between the side of the lamination carrier (10) having the open side of the ink feed channel (18) and the inner wall (22) of the shaft (3). In a first region (34) which is located in the region of the open side of the ink feed channel (18), the laminations (24) each extend up to the inner wall (22) of the shaft (3). In a second region (36), which faces away from the first region (34) and extends over at least 80% of the circumference of the laminations (24), a distance, which prevents a capillary effect, from the inner wall (22) of the shaft (3), is maintained.

  • Patent number: 5427463
Abstract: An ink writing implement has a front part with a writing tip that comes into contact with the writing substrate, and a writing fluid cartridge whose interior chamber containing the writing fluid is tightly sealed before being put into use, and which is connected to the front part during use. There is also provided an equalization system disposed inside a housing and connected by one end to the interior chamber of the writing fluid cartridge and by the other end with the outside air. The writing fluid cartridge and front part are rigidly attached to one another. The front part can be inserted into the equalization system through a back opening and moved into a position in which it protrudes beyond the front opening in the housing.

  • Patent number: 5420615
Abstract: A unitary plotter pen construction useful as a disposable plotter pen. A writing tube is provided centrally and at the front end of a unitary hard plastic body element that defines a writing tube nib; a housing for a soft plastic pressure equalization chamber and an ink reservoir; and an adaptor structure for mounting with a plotter head. An axially extending pressure-equalization chamber is defined by soft plastic, lamella vent channel element that is inserted from the rear and axially against inner surfaces of the hard plastic body element. An upper end of the pressure-equalization chamber connects to the ink supply and a lower end connects to ambient air, through an annular cavity at the front end of the unitary body element. That annular cavity also may include transverse capillary spaces as a further protection against ink leakage from the pressure equalization chamber.
