Patent number: 6134811Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for the removal of liquid from the surface (0', 0") of a strip (B) conveyed from a strip processing machine, more particularly a rolling stand, by means of a gas jet (G1, G4, G5, Gzl, Gzr, G12-G18, G17', G18'), which has an outlet nozzle (2, 4, 5, 12-19) from which the gas jet (G1, G4, G5, Gzl, Gzr, G12-G18, G17', G18') emerges, and a suction opening (8a), via which the gas jet (G1, G4, G5, Gzl, Gzr, G12-G18, G17', G18') can be removed by suction mixed with the liquid, the apparatus enabling the surface of the strip to be adequately cleaned over its whole width. This is achieved by the feature that the gas jet (G1, G4, G5, Gzl, Gzr, G12-G18, G17', G18') is guided over the strip (B) in a flow (S, S2) directed towards at least one of the lateral edges (R) of the strip (B), and a suction opening (8a) is associated with that lateral edge (R) of the strip (B) at which the flow (S, S2) is directed.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1999Date of Patent: October 24, 2000Assignee: Sundwig GmbHInventors: Bernd Berger, Manfred Benfer, Heiko Peche

Patent number: 6014882Abstract: A method of rolling out the ends of a coiled strip in a reversing rolling mill having reels disposed on both sides thereof minimizes a length of strip at the strip ends having a non-conforming thickness. A start of the strip is introduced into the roll gap without inlet side strip tension and without rolling force at the start of each reduction pass. The rolling force is then gradually increased. The inlet side strip tension is subsequently reduced substantially to zero at the end of each reduction pass while the strip end still connected to the uncoiling reel, such that the strip end passes tension-free completely through the rolling gap and is consequently reduced in thickness. An apparatus for carrying out the method on a reversing mill includes a control system which selectively controls, via regulating and adjusting devices, the inlet and outlet strip tensions and the rolling force in a manner dependent upon respective locations of the start and end of the strip.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1997Date of Patent: January 18, 2000Assignee: Sundwiger Eisenhutte Maschinenfabrik GmbHInventors: Bernd Berger, Franz Bruggen

Patent number: 5778717Abstract: The present invention relates to a process and to a device for the rolling of bands (B) with uneven thickness and/or length distribution over their width by using at least one control roller (5, 9, 21, 27, 41, 43) located on the inlet and/or outlet side of a mill (W, W', W") and capable of swiveling in its position relative to the band (B), making it possible in case of minor disturbances, independently of the existing operating conditions, to compensate for the running of a band caused by unevenness in the thickness and/or length distribution over the width of the band. This is achieved according to the invention in that the distribution of the tensile stress over the width of the band (B) is detected with at least one measuring device (7, 11, 25) and in that the control roller (5, 9, 21, 27, 41, 43) is adjusted in function of the detected distribution of tensile stress until the detected distribution of tensile stress is equal to a desired value.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1996Date of Patent: July 14, 1998Assignee: Sundwiger Eisenhutte Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Bernd Berger, H. Dieter Volkenand

Positioning apparatus for coils, more particularly of metal strip, to be fitted on to a reeling drum
Patent number: 5248109Abstract: The invention relates to a positioning apparatus for coils, more particularly of metal strip, to be fitted on to a reeling drum. To determine on all sides the internal diameter of the coil 1 and its vertical and lateral position in relation to the reeling drum 2, the internal contour of the coil 1 is determined by a measuring head 13 which measures 360.degree. and, in dependence on the measured values to be obtained, by comparison with the corresponding measured values for the reeling drum 2 adjusting members are acted upon for the vertical adjustment of a lifting carriage 3 for the coil 1 and/or the lateral offsetting and/or the relative rotation between the coil 1 and the reeling drum 2.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1991Date of Patent: September 28, 1993Assignee: Sundwiger Eisenhutte Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Bernd Berger, Manfred Benfer -
Patent number: 5142896Abstract: The invention relates to a cluster mill having four columns 5, 6 connecting the lower part 1 and the upper part 2 for the sets of rolls 3, 4. Associated with each column 5, 6 is a lifting device 11, 12 enabling the lower part 1 and the upper part 2 to be moved wide apart. A hydraulic roll screw-down system independent thereof has an adjustable piston 16 which can be attached to the column 5, 6 and between which and the bottom of its cylinder casing 17 borne by the upper part 2 the necessary roll force can be built up. Due to the adjustable piston 16, for any required roll gap the cylinder space in which the pressure for the roll force is built up has a low height.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1990Date of Patent: September 1, 1992Assignee: Sundwiger Eisenhutte MaschinenfabrikInventors: Bernd Berger, Peter Reinthal

Patent number: 4981028Abstract: In a method for cold-rolling sheets and strips, measured values which characterize the surface evenness, especially the tensile stress distribution, are formed on the delivery side of a rolling mill and, in dependence thereon, adjusting members of the rolling mill are actuated which form part of at least one regulating circuit for the surface evenness of the rolled sheets and strips. Incorrect adjustments and disruptions in the rolling process on the basis of the different time responses of the individual adjusting members are avoided by adjusting the adjusting members at speeds so matched to one another that during at least a portion of the adjusting time, the ratio of the adjustments of the participating adjusting members remains constant, and all adjusting members reach their desired values simultaneously.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1989Date of Patent: January 1, 1991Assignee: Betriebsforschungsinstitut VDehInventors: Bernd Berger, Gert Mucke, Eberhart Neuschutz
