The connector has a plurality of connection modules, a plurality of slide-in units and a wire guide insert in optional arrangements. This design permits the provision of individual functions for each of a plurality of pairs of wire conductors (each double terminal) and also mixed loading of the plug-in connector. Upon occurrence of errors it is possible to indicate error status for two respective wire conductors to a central unit by means of a slide-in unit.
