Patent number: 6802685Abstract: In a device for transferring bulk material from a reservoir or a holding space through a lock space into a pneumatic conveyor line—in which the lock space can be closed in relation to the reservoir or holding space by an axially movable closure body and at least one counterpart sealing element disposed in opposite relationship in its path of movement—the closure body has at least one vent opening which opens into an air discharge passage and can be closed in the upward closing movement of a stroke element with the sealing body; the downward opening travel (x) thereof is shorter than the downward travel of the stroke element with the sealing body. The closure body enlarges from a narrow cross-section—forming an inner sealing edge in a funnel-like configuration towards the sealing body and the narrow cross-section is an annular seat for the sealing body in the closure position.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2001Date of Patent: October 12, 2004Inventor: Bernd Federhen

Patent number: 5464310Abstract: In a conveyor conduit comprising at least one valve having a movable closure body, for loose material which is to be pneumatically conveyed, the closure body of the valve is permeable to the conveying air in the closure position of the valve in which it blocks the conduit cross-section for the material being conveyed, in particular for granulate material such as sand.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1993Date of Patent: November 7, 1995Assignee: ALB. Klein GmbH & Co. KGInventor: Bernd Federhen

Patent number: 5393138Abstract: In an apparatus for mixing foundry mould substances, in particular sand and binding agent, comprising a mixing tool which projects from a drive shaft and which is rotatable therewith in a container, fitment bodies (30) of small lateral extent (a, d) project from the wall (12) of the container (10) at a spacing in parallel relationship to the shaft from the free end (29) of the rotatable mixing tool (24).Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1993Date of Patent: February 28, 1995Inventor: Bernd Federhen

Patent number: 5259434Abstract: In a method of regenerating feed material of coated grains with an irregular surface, in particular used foundry sands coated with a casing of binder or the like, the casing is opened up by friction, wherein the sand to be regenerated is brought into rubbing contact with a granular scouring agent, the grain size of which is substantially smaller than that of the sand.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1992Date of Patent: November 9, 1993Assignee: Alb. Klein GmbH & Co. KGInventor: Bernd Federhen

Patent number: 5224802Abstract: In a method of controlling the infeed of air from an auxiliary conduit of a pneumatic conveyor installation into a tubular conveyor conduit into which compressed gas is introduced from a connecting conduit and the latter, upon a rise in pressure occurring upstream of the mouth thereof in the conveyor direction, in the conveyor conduit, is opened with a supply of air from an auxiliary conduit at high pressure, said supply of air into the conveyor conduit is interrupted in the event of pressure equalisation building up therein, by a control member which opens and closes the connecting conduit and which is guided in a path of movement which can be acted upon by at least one secondary flow of the auxiliary conduit, and a closing force is applied in a pulse-wise fashion to the control member.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1992Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: Alb. Klein GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Bernd Federhen, Manfred May

Patent number: 5082024Abstract: A valve assembly which allows air to pass in one direction in a substantially resistance-like manner while preventing the flow of air in the opposite direction. The valve assembly includes a hollow conduit having 1) an interior peripheral surface which defines a flow passage, 2) an exterior peripheral surface, and 3) a radial passage extending through the conduit for communicating the flow passage with the exterior peripheral surface. The valve assembly also includes a continuous recess formed in the exterior peripheral surface of the hollow conduit in the region of the radial passage and a valve positioned within the recess in the exterior peripheral surface and proximate to the radial passage. The valve includes a pressure ring portion and a continuous lip portion pivotably connected to said pressure ring.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1990Date of Patent: January 21, 1992Assignee: Alb. Klein GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Bernd Federhen, Manfred May

Patent number: 4955761Abstract: A process and an apparatus for pneumatically conveying material in a tubular conveyor conduit (10) into which pressure gas is introduced from a connecting conduit (12, 12.sub.a), are improved in that, in the event of a rise in pressure in the conveyor conduit (10), in the direction of conveying movement (x) upstream of the connecting conduit or the mouth opening (13) thereof, the latter is opened for a feed of air from a secondary conduit (16) under high pressure, and that said feed of air into the conveyor conduit (10) is interrupted upon equalization of the pressure in the conveyor conduit (10) in the region upstream of as well as downstream of the mouth opening (13) of the connecting conduit (12).Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1989Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Assignee: Alb. Klein GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Bernd Federhen, Manfred May

Patent number: 4850751Abstract: Apparatus for passing a feed of particulate material into a pneumatic conveyor conduit includes a charging chamber communicating with the material feed and a closure arrangement having a closure cone axially movable between a position of communicating the charging chamber with the material feed and a closure position of closing off the chamber from the feed. The closure cone is formed by the base portion of a hollow operating member extending substantially axially in the direction of flow of the material from the feed into the chamber. The operating member is generally tubular and has at least one opening outside the material flow path into the charging chamber. A closure element within the operating member is movable between first and second positions of closing and opening the opening in the operating member, in dependence on the phase of the conveying operation.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1987Date of Patent: July 25, 1989Assignee: Alb. Klein GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Bernd Federhen, Manfred May

Patent number: 4674922Abstract: An apparatus having a charging lock chamber which can be alternately closed off with respect to a supply container by a movable closure head and an annular sealing edge in opposite relationship thereto as a seat therefor, on the one hand, and from a pneumatic conveyor conduit by a flap, on the other hand, for charging a feed of particles of bulk material into the conveyor conduit, is to require inter alia only one conveyor vessel for the virtually continuous conveying of bulk material, is not to require a metering device disposed at an upstream location, and is also to be suitable for conveying pressures of around 6 bars. That is achieved in that associated with the sealing edge is at least one annular feed duct for a curtain of air which is directed towards the closure head, and that the flap which is pivoted at one end has a force storage device engaging beneath it and in its closure position bears against the substantially horizontal edge of a mouth opening (18) of the charging lock chamber.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1985Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Inventors: Bernd Federhen, Manfred May, Gerhard Muller-Spath

Patent number: 4592679Abstract: In a process and apparatus for pneumatically conveying loose material in grain or dust form by discharge thereof from a conveyor container, through a conveyor conduit disposed downstream thereof, after the conveyor container has been emptied and before the conveyor conduit is also emptied of the loose material being conveyed, the conveyor conduit is closed at both ends, to maintain that existing condition. After the conduit is thus closed off at both ends, leakage losses of conveying gas are compensated for by supplying a leakage make-up amount. The apparatus has a conveyor conduit which is provided at each of its end portion towards the conveyor conduit and its discharge end portion with at least one closure member to act as inlet and outlet valves respectively. At least one gas feed line from a leakage make-up valve opens into the conduit.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1983Date of Patent: June 3, 1986Assignee: Alb. Klein GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Hans H. Boiting, Bernd Federhen, Gerhard Muller-Spath
