  • Patent number: 9953293
Abstract: A running of an application resource of a first site of at least two sites is stopped from accessing a storage device of the first site. A running of a replication resource is brought to a stop. The replication resource is configured to control a replication of data between the storage device on the first site on which data from the running application resource on the first site are stored to the storage device on the second site. A replication request is submitted to the automation engine for changing a replication direction to run from the second site to the first site. The application resource is started on the second site only after changing the replication direction to start from the storage device on the second site instead of from the storage device of the first site.

  • Patent number: 9251323
Abstract: mechanisms are provided to securely access systems of a distributed computer system by entering passwords. Some systems are accessible by equal, and some systems are accessible by different passwords. The mechanisms store information, which systems (I, II) are accessible by equal, and which are accessible by different passwords and ask to enter a proper password when opening a session by accessing a system of the distributed computer system. The mechanisms cache the password and use the stored information to verify, if another system to be accessed during the current session is accessible by an equal password like a system already accessed during said session. If the result of the verification is true, the mechanisms re-use the adequate cached password.

  • Patent number: 8806500
Abstract: Embodiments provide a method of dynamically setting the automation behavior of resources via switching between an active mode and a passive mode. One embodiment is a method that includes placing a first computing resource into a first desired state and an active behavioral mode and placing a second computing resource having a relationship to the first resource into the first desired state when a first request for the first resource that specifies the first desired state is received. The method also includes placing the first computing resource into a standby state and a passive behavioral mode and not placing the second computing resource into the first desired state.

  • Patent number: 7934199
Abstract: A method and respective system for performing a reconfiguration of a plurality of resources, where the resources reside on multiple different system platforms including a mainframe with a policy-based automation manager. A reconfiguration method with an improved switching facility between such configurations is provided by using a predefined automation choice group as a part of a predetermined automation policy, pre-selecting one group member as preferred to be activated in case a predetermined automation choice group is determined for operation, providing a user interface for triggering a reconfiguration of the resources according to the automation policy, and initiating an automatic change from a first resource configuration into a second resource configuration when the trigger is actuated.

  • Patent number: 7734677
Abstract: A method, system and program product is provided for dynamically integrating Backend System instances into a J2EE application server environment during runtime without having to restart the J2EE application server environment. The system comprises a deployment descriptor for deploying a J2C Connector into the J2EE application server environment and a Join/Leave manager. The manager implements an interface for detecting the Backend System instances, and an interface for providing access data and status information about the Backend System instances to the application. In addition, at least one node is enabled to run an application or its subcomponent for adding access data to, and deleting it from a storage media.

  • Publication number: 20080276308
Abstract: A method to securely access systems (I, II) of a distributed computer system by entering passwords is described, wherein some systems are accessible by equal, and some systems are accessible by different passwords, comprising the steps of: storing information, which systems (I, II) are accessible by equal, and which are accessible by different passwords, asking to enter a proper password when opening a session by accessing a system (I, II) of said distributed computer system, caching said password, using the stored information to verify, if another system (I, II) to be accessed during the current session is accessible by an equal password like a system (I, II) already accessed during said session, if the result of the verification is true, re-using the adequate cached password, if the result of the verification is false, asking to enter a proper password to access the other system (I, II), and caching said password required to access the other system (I, II) in a way that during the current session, it can

  • Publication number: 20030055863
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing a resource in an information handling system in which one or more processes are utilizing the resource. The current utilization of the resource is determined and compared with a predetermined maximum utilization set for the resource, either for the system as a whole or for a particular process executing on the system. A message is generated if the current utilization of the resource reaches any one of a plurality of predetermined fractional thresholds relative to the predetermined maximum utilization set for the resource. An operator command allows the messages to be displayed for all resources or just for system-wide resources, or to be suppressed entirely. Another operator command allows the operator to obtain a display of current resource utilization, the peak (“high water”) utilization since the last reset, and the maximum resource utilization, either for the system as a whole or for a particular process.
