  • Patent number: 4774415
Abstract: The device in accordance with the invention for the sterilization of a hose coupling device (in its connected condition) of dialysis apparatus, comprises an opening housing into which the coupling device is placed. The coupling device is subjected to infrared radiation from heating elements in the housing whose heating effect is monitored and automatically controlled by a temperature probe arranged under the coupling device in the housing. Since the temperature probe is designed to have such an infrared absorption characteristic that the temperature increase rate of the probe is substantially the same as that of the coupling device, one may be certain that the coupling device will have reached the desired temperature (which is detected at the temperature probe) with only a slight delay if any. At the same time there is the advantage that the interior of the coupling device is heated to substantially above the minimum necessary sterilization temperature.

  • Patent number: 4745950
Abstract: A connector (2) for peritoneal dialysis comprises a female connector piece (4) and a male connector piece (6). The male connector piece comprises a central tube section (22) whose diameter tapers at a step (26). Furthermore, the female connector piece (4) comprises a valve means (52) which consists of an annular seal (54) and a valve plate (58) which is pressed by means of a pressure spring (60) against the sealing ring (54). On connection of the female connector piece (4) with the male connector piece (6) at least one pin (46) on the male connector piece engages in a guide groove (48) which is formed in a sleeve (10) in which the female connector piece (4) is provided.

  • Patent number: 4617119
Abstract: The present blood exchange device comprises a plurality of membrane film layers formed by folding a continuous band of a suitable membrane film into a plurality of continuous folds and by inserting sealing masks around the edges of the folds. Apertures are provided, preferably at the corners of the folded package in such a manner that one set of apertures communicates with one set of chambers while another set of apertures communicates with another set of chambers formed between the folds of the membrane film layers. The chambers of one set alternate with the chambers of the other set.

  • Patent number: 4564342
Abstract: A peristaltically operating roller pump, in particular a hose pump for medical technology, comprises a pump bed (25) whose bearing wall (28) in the exit region (31) has a curvature which is in the same sense as the circular path (33a) of a roller (33) mounted on a pump rotor (1) and which has a radius of curvature which is constant with respect to the circular path (33a) or gradually increases in the direction of rotation of the roller (33). The pump rotor (1) comprises a gear connection so that a constrained radial movement of a roller is converted to a corresponding follow-up movement of the other rollers or roller. By this combination of pump bed and pump rotor pressure peaks and fluctuations of the flow rate are effectively prevented.

  • Patent number: 4552552
Abstract: The present invention is with respect to a dialysis pumping system, and more specially to a single needle dialysis apparatus with a dialyser having blood and dialysate circuits and which has blood inlets and outlets that are joined by intake and outlet lines with at least one blood connection. The intake line has a driving pump and a blood pump powered by driving fluid from said driving pump and pump valves placed upstream and downstream from the said blood pump. Furthermore the outlet line has a further shut off valve. The blood pump unit has a generally stiff housing with a pipe-like liner in it walling off the space in the housing into a first chamber for blood and a second driving fluid chamber that is joined up with the driving pump, that may be a bellows pump and is joined up with the housing by an air circuit with sensors or valve driving parts for controlling motion of air into and out of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4551147
Abstract: A universal infusion apparatus for use with sterile, sealed bottles of infusion liquid has a hydrophobic filter for stopping possible loss of liquid through the air duct, that is used for letting air into the vessel to take the place of the liquid run off therefrom. The air filter is furthermore used for stopping bacteria from the outside air being taken up into the vessel. For decreasing the degree of vacuum necessary for starting operation of the filter when there is liquid on the inside face of it so that there is no danger of the bottle collapsing, there is an air trap or storage space in which air will be kept when liquid makes its way through the air duct.

  • Patent number: 4545744
Abstract: A roller pump (1) comprises a stator member (2) in which a pump bed (3) is formed with specific geometry. In the interior of the pump bed (3) a rotor (6) is rotatably mounted. A pump hose (10) can be inserted into the pump bed (3), said hose being curved in loop-like manner and its two ends being combined in immediate vicinity to each other in a connecting piece (11). The connecting piece (11) can be fixed in location in the stator member (2), the arrangement in the stator member (2) being uniquely defined by cooperation of a location tongue (23) and a location slot (22). Interchanging of the pressure-side and suction-side connection is thus impossible. A holding-down member (24) arranged on the rotor (6) permits automatic insertion and ejection of the pump hose (10) or hose system (9).

  • Patent number: 4540397
Abstract: A centrifugal apparatus, in particular a flow-through centrifugal apparatus for processing biological fluids in continuous fluid communication, has a flexible tube securely fixed to a rotatably processing chamber and a stationary terminal coaxially above said processing chamber, and being formed in a loop around the outer periphery of said processing chamber so as, in operation, to orbit said loop around said processing chamber at half the rotational speed thereof to avoid twisting or drilling of said tube. To guide said loop of tube in its orbital movement, a rotating frame is provided also rotating at half the speed of the processing chamber. The drive trains for said processing chamber and said rotating frame, respectively, each comprise an individual drive shaft each drivingly connected separate from the other to a drive motor. This avoids any necessity of reversal of rotational direction in the drive trains and allows for a compact and simple construction with a minimum of rotating masses.

  • Patent number: 4514295
Abstract: A blood accumulator for use in single needle dialysis systems is provided with elastic walls so that expansion of the accumulator in an outward direction may take place and in the filled condition, the walls are stretched. After the blood input pump is stopped and a valve opened, blood makes its way at a controlled rate out of the accumulator past the dialysis diaphragm back to the patient's body.

  • Patent number: 4330080
Abstract: A separator shaped like a plate, for an ultracentrifuge, comprises centrally arranged inlet and outlet nipples (5, 6, 7, 8) opening axially outwardly. A ring channel (11) is arranged near the circumference of the plate (1) and extends along or near substantially the entire circumference. One end, the inlet end, of the ring channel is connected through a respective radially extending duct (10) to the inlet nipple (5). The other end of the ring channel (11) opens into at least one separation zone (17) which is widened relative to the ducts. The separation zone (17) is connected through approximately radially further ducts (12, 14, 15) to the outlet nipples (6, 7, 8). Peeling edges (18, 20, 21) project into the separation zone (17) and form a radially outwardly located boundary of the inflow areas of the connecting ducts (12, 14, 15). These ducts (12, 14, 15) merge into the separation zone (17) behind the peeling edges at different radial spacings in the rotational direction (9).
