  • Patent number: 5365761
Abstract: The invention relates to the production of low-residual-stress strip and is applicable in the field of metal forming. Pursuant to the invention, the gap between the finishing rolls is adjusted in n strip elements during the rolling process by adjusters in each case by amounts .DELTA.S.sub.i. However, it is not necessary that the number n of measurement zones be equal to the number of adjustment zones. The adjustment amounts .DELTA.S.sub.i for the individual strip elements are determined continuously, with the inclusion of the no-slip point (FIG. 1) by determining, either before or at the start of the roll pass, the average pass reduction .epsilon..sub.h,ges as well as the partial reduction .epsilon..sub.h,k, which characterizes the reduction from the no-slip point up to the exit side of the roll gap. The ratio .epsilon..sub.h,ges /.epsilon..sub.h,k formed from the two quantities, after multiplicative linkage with the final thickness h.sub.1, gives a fixed amount valid for the respective roll pass.

  • Patent number: 5318709
Abstract: A process for the production of a surfactant mixture for use in enhanced oil recovery wherein the surfactant mixture comprises an alkyl ether sulfonic acid or salt thereof as a principal constituent and at most a substantially equal quantity of alkoxylated alcohol. The surfactant mixture is prepared by reacting an alkyl ether sulfate with a stoichiometric excess of an alkali metal sulfite solution at about 160.degree. C. to 220.degree. C. under mildly alkaline pH conditions, and then extracting sulfate salt therefrom using a substantially water-insoluble alcohol at a lowered temperature.

  • Patent number: 5025854
Abstract: An apparatus for the inspection and/or repair of tubes discharging into a chamber of a heat exchanger includes a tube sensor. A manipulator provides remote-controlled positioning of the tube sensor. A plurality of mouthpieces disposed on the manipulator introduces the sensor into tubes of a heat exchanger. Tube connectors communicate with the mouthpieces and have two ends. One of the ends of the tube connectors is coaxially attachable to orifices of the tubes of the heat exchanger. The other of the ends of the tube connectors are bundled into a circular group at an adaptor. A distributor plate has orifices into each of which a respective one of the tube connectors discharge. A parallel turntable is supported on the distributor plate. A guide hose is introduced into the turntable for guiding the tube sensor. Incremental rotation of the turntable selectively aligns the axis of the guide hose with the axis of one of the orifices in the distributor plate.

  • Patent number: 4924933
Abstract: An apparatus for introducing and/or positioning a device in a chamber of a heat exchanger includes an assembly yoke with ends and a middle. The yoke may manually be introduced into the chamber of the heat exchanger with a pole. At least three remotely-actuatable clamping fingers are disposed on the assembly yoke. The clamping fingers are designed such that they may be locked or braced in tubes of the heat exchanger. For this purpose, respective locking devices that are remotely controllable may be used. A lifting cylinder holds one of the clamping fingers at least approximately at the middle of the yoke. Remotely-actuatable clamping devices each hold at least one of the clamping fingers on a respective one of the ends of the yoke. Toothed belts each have an end connected to a respective one of the clamping fingers positioned on the ends of the yoke. Two synchronously controllable elevators each have a toothed belt drive in engagement with a respective one of the toothed belts.

  • Patent number: 4605087
Abstract: In the particular embodiments described in the specification, an all-wheel drive system is disclosed wherein either the wheels of both the front axle and the rear axle of a vehicle are driven continuously and the front axle and rear axle can be rigidly coupled with each other, or wherein the wheels of only one axle are driven continuously while the drive for the wheels of the second axle can be obtained automatically by means of a viscosity clutch arranged in the driving train between the front axle and the rear axle so that the front and the rear axles are coupled with each other essentially rigidly according to the torque. In addition, one or more coupling devices are provided which are constructed so that a decrease in the rotational speed of the front wheels, caused in particular by the actuation of the service brake, cannot be transmitted through the driving train to the rear wheels.
