Patent number: 6277027Abstract: A hydrodynamic torque converter is embodied with a converter housing that, on its side facing a drive, has a substantially radially-running primary flange. Attached to the primary flange are a central pin for mounting and a holder for holding the converter housing on the drive, as well as a housing hub for mounting a transmission shaft of an output. At least one of the connecting elements on the primary flange (i.e., the holder, the housing hub and the central pin) is connected to the primary flange by an outward pressing. The holder, housing hub and central pin respectively establish a connection between the primary flange and the drive or output. This connection to the primary flange is created by material displacement into an opening in the connecting element in question, which opening is located on the side facing away from the connection.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2000Date of Patent: August 21, 2001Assignee: Mannesmann Sachs AGInventors: Bernd Schöder, Ruthard Schneider

Patent number: 6216836Abstract: A housing component for a hydrodynamic clutch device, especially a hydrodynamic torque converter, possesses a friction surface region for a converter lock-up clutch of the clutch device on a first side which is positionable for facing the interior of the clutch device. This housing component is formed by, at least in the region of the friction surface region, the reshaping of a metal component. On a second side of the housing component lying opposite to the first side a surface structuring is formed in a region corresponding to the friction surface region by reshaping of the metal component to form the friction surface region.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1999Date of Patent: April 17, 2001Assignee: Mannesmann Sachs AGInventors: Roland Illig, Bernd Schöder, Ruthard Schneider

Patent number: 6076642Abstract: A bridge coupling on a hydrodynamic torque converter is embodied with an axially movable piston arranged on a radial bearing. In one operating position, the piston can be brought into active connection with a support surface of a radial flange of the converter housing via at least one friction lining. The piston executes its axial movement under the influence of an axially elastic element integrated in the radial bearing and having an elastomer substantially deformable in the axial direction.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1999Date of Patent: June 20, 2000Assignee: Mannesmann Sachs AGInventors: Roland Illig, Frank Thorn, Robert Besendorf, Maximilian Henze, Bernd Schoder, Klaus Seemann

Patent number: 4437551Abstract: In a hydrodynamic torque converter a pump wheel, a turbine wheel and a guide wheel are enclosed within a converter housing. These three wheels interact in a fluid cycle and are rotatable relative to one another. A controllable bridging clutch is located between the pump wheel and the turbine wheel and is disposed parallel to the torque transmission path between the two wheels. The clutch couples the turbine wheel to the pump wheel without any slippage and in dependence on the pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the converter housing. In the path of the bridging clutch, springs of a torsional vibration damper are arranged for dampening irregularities in the torque transmission on both the driving side and the driven side. A friction damper is connected in parallel with the torsional vibrational damper.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1981Date of Patent: March 20, 1984Assignee: Fichtel & Sachs AGInventors: Joachim Gimmler, Bernd Schoder
