    Abstract: This invention is directed to water-dilutable alkyd and acrylate resins. More particularly, this invention is directed to a method for the preparation of water-dilutable resin preparations based upon alkyd and acrylate resins which comprises the steps of:(a) preparing an aqueous alkyd resin dispersion, wherein the alkyd resin has an acid number of from about 5 to 40 and a hydroxyl number of from about 150 to 300 and the dispersion has a solids content of from about 30 to 90 percent by weight; and(b) polymerizing monomers of acrylic acid derivatives or methacrylic acid derivatives in the dispersion from step (a), optionally in the presence of additional water, to obtain a total solids content of from about 30 to 80 percent by weight, the weight ratio of alkyd resin to acrylate resin being from about 1:4 to 9:1.This invention is also directed to the use of these binders in water-dilutable lacquer systems.

    Abstract: A stabilized thermoplastic composition comprised of polyvinyl chloride or mixed polymers containing mainly vinyl chloride units together with stabilizers and other conventional additives employed in thermoplastic compositions, which have as major stabilizer component, a content of 0.02 to 5 parts by weight of aliphatic polyhydroxyl compounds containing 4 to 6 OH-groups per 100 parts by weight of polymer. These polyhydroxyl compounds should contain at least one carboxyl and/or carbonyl group and/or double bond. Suitable compounds are gluconic acid, glucuronic acid, ketogluconic acid, ascorbic acid or the alkali metal salts or alkaline earth salts of the mentioned acids.Other conventional processing additives may be present. The invention concerns also a process for the manufacture of pipes, profiles, foils, hollow parts by hot forming, with the use of the mentioned additives, and the additional use of paraffin, free fatty acid, epoxidized soybean oil or higher molecular weight ester wax.

    Abstract: In the process for the preparation of high concentration, low-viscosity liquid pigment pastes comprising mixing pigments, a substantially non-volatile liquid organic media, a suspension assistant, and, optionally, fillers, the improvement consisting of using acidic reaction products of the reaction of:(A) unsaturated dicarboxylic acid compounds, and(B) an unsaturated ester of a dicarboxylic acid, which reaction product is produced by heating said component A and said component B in a weight ratio of 1:7 to 1:35 for from 1 to 25 hours at a temperature in the range of 200.degree. to 250.degree., as said suspension assistant;as well as the high concentration, low-viscosity pigment pastes and solutions of said acidic reaction products in organic liquid media.
