  • Publication number: 20140175758
Abstract: A shaft seal assembly includes a seal component with a bore retention feature, and a housing structure. The seal component includes a hook retention feature including a hook element that hooks around a ridge of the housing structure that partially defines the bore. The hook retention feature may include a first surface, a second surface, and a third surface that define a recess that receives the portion of the housing structure. The third surface may be a bottom surface of a hook that extends around the received portion of the housing structure.

  • Publication number: 20140175755
Abstract: A shaft seal includes an elastomeric component that includes a plurality of anti-rotation features spaced intermittently about a circumference of the elastomeric component, and a seal contact component that is bonded to the elastomeric component. Each of the plurality of anti-rotation features is a rib structure. The rib structure of each of the plurality of anti-rotation features may extend from adjacent the outer diameter face and widen toward the inner diameter face, or may extend from adjacent the inner diameter face and widen toward the outer inner diameter face, to form substantially a tear drop shape. A shaft seal assembly includes the described shaft seal, and an application housing structure including a bore that receives at least a portion of the shaft seal. The seal contact component is received within the bore, and the application housing structure is configured to rotate relative to the shaft seal.

  • Publication number: 20140175757
Abstract: A seal component for a shaft seal assembly includes an elastomeric element and a substrate, wherein the seal component has an over-molded configuration in which the elastomeric element is over-molded onto the substrate. In one embodiment, the elastomeric element includes a pair of flexible arms that are compressible about an apex to energize the seal component. In another embodiment, the shaft seal assembly includes twist lock retention features for retaining the seal component within the housing structure. The seal component includes a plurality of locking features, and a plurality of cooperating locking slots is provided in the housing structure that respectively receive the locking features of the seal component. Specifically, when the seal component is rotated relative to the housing structure from an initial position to a second locked position, the locking features are compressed within the locking slots of the housing structure in the second locked position.

  • Publication number: 20070163530
Abstract: A seal assembly (46) for sealing the interface between a shaft (16) and a bore-defining wall (22). The seal assembly (46) comprises a sealing element (50), a reinforcing insert (52), and an elastomeric casing (54). The sealing element (50) has a shaft-contacting portion (56) positioned adjacent the shaft (16) and an insert-engaging portion (58) positioned substantially parallel to the bore-defining wall (22). The reinforcing insert (52) has a seal-engaging portion (66) positioned substantially parallel to the bore-defining wall (22) and positioned radially outward from the insert-engaging portion (58) of the sealing element (50). The elastomeric casing (54) surrounds the radially outer sides of the engaging portions (58,66) of the sealing element (50) and the reinforcing insert (52), to thereby urge the insert-engaging portion (58) of the sealing element (50) radially inward towards the seal-engaging portion (66) of the reinforcing insert (52).
