  • Publication number: 20150205674
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed to catalog backup data. An example method of cataloging backup data includes when a source server is offline, copying the backup data to a data repository from the source server. In response to completing copying of the backup data, the example method also includes putting the source server online. The example method also includes cataloging the backup data in the data repository when the source server is online to complete backup of the backup data to the data repository.

  • Publication number: 20140040573
Abstract: Storage device libraries, machine readable media, and methods are provided for determining a number of storage devices to backup objects in view of quality of service considerations. An example of a storage device library that determines the number of storage devices to backup objects includes a plurality of storage devices and a controller to control backup of the objects to an assigned number of the storage devices. The controller determines the assigned number of the storage devices before the backup of the objects based upon assigned parameters for backup of the objects that include a time window and a number of concurrent disk agents per storage device.

  • Patent number: 8554736
Abstract: A method of backing up a backup space includes splitting a complete backup of the backup space into a number of rolling backups, and backing up a portion of unchanged files and all changed and new files on each of the rolling backups.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20130060901
Abstract: An information management control system is disclosed. A planning engine executes on a server and receives a protection service level objective. The planning engine dynamically develops a time schedule of data transfer from a source device. The planning engine also develops a subset of nodes suitable to receive the data transfer in accordance with the protection service level objective. A routing engine receives the time schedule and the subset of nodes. The routing engine generates a coordinating set of connected components from a repository of components to route the data transfer from the source device to one of the nodes suitable to receive the data transfer in accordance with the protection service level objective.

  • Patent number: 8321644
Abstract: A method, a tangible non-transitory computer readable storage medium, and a tape library for backing up filesystems are provided. Historic job durations to back up data to a storage device are obtained. Objects to be backed up to multiple drives in the storage device are ordered based on the job durations. The objects are assigned to agents based on priorities that first back up an object having a longest job duration. The objects are backed up with the agents to the multiple drives according to the priorities.
