  • Publication number: 20040065129
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a flow-forming machine for inserting a groove in a cylindrical, thin workpiece. The workpiece is rotated relative to at least one spinning roller. The spinning roller is provided with a profile corresponding to the groove to be shaped. The spinning roller is radially infed to the workpiece and the groove is shaped. A particularly precise forming of the groove is brought about in that simultaneously with the radial infeeding of the spinning roller and the shaping of the groove, the workpiece is axially upset by means of at least one punch.

  • Publication number: 20030019269
Abstract: The invention relates to a flow-forming method and device for producing a hollow article having a steplike shoulder from a tubular workpiece. For this purpose on the tubular workpiece is formed a conical area, which is selectively heated. Then an axial upsetting force is exerted on the workpiece, so that the heated conical area is upset and formed to the steplike shoulder. Both the shaping of the conical area and the upsetting can be performed on one flow-forming device.

  • Patent number: 6334349
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the manufacture of a shaft with a larger diameter flange, particularly for a cone gear, a round stock as the workpiece being rotated about its longitudinal axis relative to at least one spinning roll and is axially compressed and the material occurring during axial upsetting is formed to the larger diameter flange under the action of the at least one spinning roll. The invention also relates to a cone gear.

  • Patent number: 5927121
Abstract: A method of manufacture of a gear part with a bottom area and a circumferential area, which has two portions. One portion extends to one side of the bottom area, while the other portion extends to the opposite side of the bottom area. On one portion is formed an inner profiling and on the other portion an outer profiling. According to a first method, on a cup-shaped preform a web is formed by splitting or flow-forming and extends in the opposite direction to the cup wall. In the thus formed web and in the cup wall are subsequently made the desired profilings. In a second method, an arcuate curl is produced and is subsquently flow-formed to the portions with the profilings.

  • Patent number: 5806358
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for the manufacture of a workpiece having a boss from a rotationally symmetrical sheet metal blank with a central opening on a spinning or flow-forming machine. In an area around the central opening the sheet metal blank is shaped to a sleeve-like boss. The sheet metal blank central opening initially has a diameter smaller than the internal diameter of the boss. The central opening is subsequently widened to the internal diameter of the boss, the displaced sheet metal blank material being used for forming the sleeve-like boss. At least one flow-forming process is performed in this clamping operation.
