  • Publication number: 20090058314
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for operating a high-pressure gas discharge lamp (Lp), which is provided with a starting auxiliary electrode (ZE), with a current of alternating polarity. The device comprises a series resonance circuit (L11, C1; L, C3) with a resonance inductive resistor (L11; L), which is flowed through by the lamp current when the lamp is in operation, and comprises a starting device for subjecting the starting auxiliary electrode (ZE) to the starting voltage required for starting the gas discharge in the high-pressure gas discharge lamp (Lp). The device comprises a capacitive component (C2; C5), which is connected in series to the resonance inductive resistor (L11; L) and is dimensioned in such a manner that the capacitive component (C2; C5) effects, after the gas discharge in the high-pressure gas discharge lamp (Lp) has been started, at least a partial compensation for the inductance of the resonance inductive resistor (L11; L), flowed through by the lamp current.

  • Publication number: 20080150448
Abstract: A lamp base (2) for a high-pressure discharge lamp comprises an ignition transformer (1000), which is placed in the interior (214) of the lamp base (2) and which serves to ignite the gas discharge inside the high-pressure discharge lamp. To this end, the ignition transformer (1000) comprises a core on which its windings (1001, 1002) are placed. The core is formed by a first core part (1004) and by at least one second core part (1005, 1006, 1007), which are each made of a ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic material and are separated by at least one gap (10078). The first core part (1004) has a cylindrical section on which the windings (1001, 1002) of the ignition transformer (1000) are placed, and core parts (1004, 1005, 1006, 1007) are formed in such a manner that the core, apart from the at least one gap (1008), has a closed shape.

  • Patent number: 7271547
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp having electrodes arranged inside a discharge vessel which define a discharge path of a gas discharge in the discharge vessel, and having a starting device, arranged inside the lamp base for the high-pressure discharge lamp and designed as a pulse starting device, for starting the gas discharge in the discharge vessel, and having, arranged outside its discharge vessel, an auxiliary starting electrode coupled to the pulse starting device, the voltage input of pulse starting device being connected in parallel with the discharge path of the high-pressure discharge lamp, such that according to the invention the voltage across the discharge path serves as supply voltage for the pulse starting device. Also disclosed is an operating method for such a high-pressure discharge lamp.
