  • Patent number: 4740356
Abstract: Inert gas is supplied to a closed reagent reservoir for reagent dosing in producing gaseous measuring samples according to the "hydride method". Thereby, reagent is pressed into a sample vessel through a reagent dosing conduit. A manometric switch is provided at the inert gas connecting conduit to produce a defined reagent flow, by means of which manometric switch a valve located in the connecting conduit is driven into its closed position, if a preset pressure has been reached.

  • Patent number: 4268478
Abstract: Method and apparatus for generating a gaseous test sample from a liquid sample and for transferring this test sample into a measuring cuvette of an atomic absorption spectrometer, in which an inert gas flow is directed through a sample vessel and into a measuring cuvette and, after the air has been displaced from the sample vessel, a reagent is added for generating a gaseous test sample, the test sample being carried into the measuring cuvette by the inert gas flow, wherein prior to the adding of the reagent, the flow rate of the inert gas flow is changed-over from a higher value to a lower value.

  • Patent number: 4230665
Abstract: Gaseous measuring samples like element hydrides are generated from liquid samples by reacting the same with reducing reagents in a reactor. In the reactor a countercurrent of inert gas strips the volatile reduction products from the reactor to convey the products to the measuring cell of an analytical measuring instrument. Various embodiments of the apparatus automatically controlling the supply of liquid sample and reagents to the reactor are disclosed such as mechanically or pneumatically controlled pumps. In each measuring cycle the reactor and respective components are washed to prevent contamination of succeeding samples; also, analytical determination of blank values as well as reference values can be included in each measuring cycle.

  • Patent number: 4208372
Abstract: Atomic absorption spectrometer sample supply apparatus for producing a gaseous sample for analysis and for transferring the sample to the atomic measuring cuvette. The sample supply is in a sealed vessel and, by directing the flow of a pressurized inert gas, the sealed sample vessel is first purged of contaminating air, a volatilizing reagent is forced by inert gas pressure into the sample, and a small specimen of the gaseous sample is transferred by gas pressure into the cuvette inlet tube.

  • Patent number: 4162849
Abstract: The desired element in a specimen to be analyzed by atomic absorption spectroscopy is deposited in the spectroscope measuring tube in a concentrated form by first distilling away all components of the specimen that are more volatile than the element, then increasing the heat to distill off the desired element which is condensed on the cooler walls of the measuring tube while all components less volatile than the element will remain in the adjacent heated specimen crucible.

  • Patent number: 4146331
Abstract: The combustion of hydrogen at the open ends of an atomic absorption spectrometer heated atomizing tube that is being supplied with substances or reagents containing volatile hydrides is eliminated by tube extensions of low heat conductive material that lower the temperature of the gas below its flash point.

  • Patent number: 4088446
Abstract: Heat is applied to atomize the residual liquid from a sample transfer probe on which at least the tip is fabricated of heat resistant material. In one embodiment, the sample transfer probe is disposed within an atomic absorbtion spectrometer having a hollow graphite furnace that includes a port through which the sample is dispensed for atomization in the furnace. The probe tip in this embodiment is configured to extend into the graphite furnace while making thermal contact therewith so that the sample residue on the probe tip is atomized simultaneously with the sample in the furnace. Inert gas is connected to the sample transfer probe through a control valve to flush the atomized sample residue from within the probe tip in still another embodiment.
