  • Publication number: 20110026472
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of reducing beacon collision probability in a communication network supporting control channels comprising beacon periods divided into beacon slots, each beacon period being followed by a contention period. In the method a communication device (101) operating in the communication network first chooses (503) an available beacon slot for transmission of a first type of beacon for exchanging network topology information with other communication devices operating in the communication network. Then the communication device transmits (515) a beacon of a second type comprising an identifier of the communication device and the chosen beacon slot for the transmission of the beacon of the first type, the beacon of the second type being transmitted in the contention period.

  • Publication number: 20100260046
Abstract: The present invention relates to a congestion control method for a communication system supporting layered radio channel structure for communication between at least a first communication device and a second communication device, the layered structure comprising at least a physical layer and a medium access layer. The communication system is arranged to offer a first type of service with a first priority order and a second type of service with a second priority order, in the communication system messages comprising a preamble and a payload can be transmitted between devices, each message being separated by at least a period corresponding to a minimum allowable period between two messages.

  • Publication number: 20100202417
Abstract: In wireless meshes, mesh points announce reservation of the wireless medium in beacon frame. Each mesh point determines scheduled reservation of the medium for transmission of the future beacon frames and scheduled reservations of the medium for data communication with the station The station further aggregates the reservations into a single element: an medium occupation element and integrates this element into the beacon frame for future transmission to nearby mesh points.

  • Publication number: 20100067506
Abstract: A wireless network (1) comprises basic service sets (6, 7) and a distribution system (8). Each of the basic service sets (6, 7) comprises stations (2, 3) and stations (4, 5), respectively. Thereby, data is moved between their basic service sets (6, 7) and said distribution system (8) via access points (10, 11), which are also stations (3, 4). A medium access control architecture incorporating a distributed coordination function as an access method is provided. Thereby, a normal mode and a mesh mode are provided. Thereby, normal mode is used to transmit data between stations (2, 3; 4, 5) within each of the basic service sets (6; 7). In mesh mode, data is transmitted between the access points (10, 11). To priorize transmission within the distribution system (8) the stations (2, 5), which are not mesh devices, are silence during mesh mode.

  • Patent number: 7095722
Abstract: A method for the operation of wireless base stations for packet transfer radio systems having guaranteed service quality. The method includes increasing the supply ranges of packet oriented transferring radio stations, which are located outside the range of the central base stations and are supplied by wireless base stations (relay stations). In contrast to conventional wireless transfer systems, a communications service quality is guaranteed. A common time interconnected capacity assignment method is used. The capacity assignment is generated for an access point (AP) by mobile and forward terminals (MT, FMT) which can be reached directly. Individual MTs are present in the form of wireless base stations and serve as relay stations (FMTs) for the MTs outside the range of an AP. For an AP, FMTs appear as MTs. The FMT forms a partial frame structure in a part of the AP distribution capacity transfer system, which is embedded in the time frame structure dictated by the commanding central station.

  • Patent number: 7016676
Abstract: The invention relates to an interface-control protocol method for a radio system, which has at least one frequency band provided for the two-way alternate utilization of a first and a second radio interface standard. The radio system comprises a number of stations, which each function in accordance with a first radio interface standard and/or in accordance with a second radio interface standard, in which a control station is provided that controls the two-way alternate utilization of the frequency band.

  • Publication number: 20060036434
Abstract: The present invention provides for a reliable communication over radio networks co-existing in the same frequency band. According to the present invention, a transceiver operating according to another transmission scheme may transmit a frame in the IEEE 802.11 format. This frame may comprise an error. Upon receipt of this frame by an IEEE 802.11 station, this station may defer from channel access for a period of time.

  • Publication number: 20040022219
Abstract: The invention defines a combined and harmonized protocol for wireless LANs based on the combination of ETSI BRAN HiperLAN/2 protocols with IEEE 802.11a protocols. The new HipeLAN/2 enhanced AP (H/2eAP) will—in addition to its standard HiperLAN/2 operation—also work as Point Coordinator of 802.11a, or is supported by a cooperative Point Coordinator of 802.11. The H/2eAP sends a corporate beacon at the H/2 Target Beacon Transmission Time (H/2 TBTT) with setting the CfpDurRemaining parameter to (a multiple of) 2 ms. Upon receiving this beacon by stations of the 802.11a BSS, the stations recognize it as a foreign BSS beacon, extract and evaluate the CfpDurRemaining parameter and thus set timers to the appropriate duration, not to initiate any data transmission during the respective time. After sending this beacon the H/2eAP is able to initiate the transmission of its H/2 MAC frame without underlying interference from the neighbor 802.11a system and without delay of the initial H/2 corporate beacon.
