  • Patent number: 9264008
Abstract: A filter apparatus includes at least one filter, each filter being tunable and including at least one capacitor arrangement. The capacitor arrangement includes a plurality of first capacitors, a plurality of second capacitors, and a plurality of switches. Each switch is switchable between a non-conducting mode and a conducting mode. The plurality of second capacitors and the plurality of switches are arranged to connect or disconnect the second capacitors on different potentials in order to tune the filter by adjusting the capacitance of the filter. An electrical power transmission or distribution system includes such a filter apparatus. A method is provided for filtering harmonics in an electrical power transmission or distribution system by means of such a filter apparatus.

  • Patent number: 8228694
Abstract: A converter station an element adapted to determine a value of an actual temperature of any critical component of the station and an element adapted to determine a value of an actual temperature of any media used to cool the critical component. An arrangement is adapted to utilize these temperature values and information about actual cooling capacity of any cooling equipment present to cool the critical component and information about the thermal behavior of the critical component and the possible cooling media upon a possible change of the power actually transmitted through the station in a mathematical model for calculating the present overload capabilities of the converter station for use in the control of converters of the station upon a possible request of utilizing an overload capability of the station.

  • Patent number: 5414612
Abstract: An HVDC transmission has two converters (SR1, SR2). Each converter is connected between an alternating-voltage network (N1, N2) and a d.c. link (L1, L2) common to the converters. At least one converter is connected to its alternating-voltage network without the use of any full transformer, for example directly, or via an inductor or an autotransformer, or via series capacitors. The transmission has a mutual inductor (IB) which is arranged on the d.c. side of the converter and which has two windings (IB1, IB2) which are each connected to a respective one of the d.c. supply lines of the converter and are magnetically coupled to each other, the inductor being designed and connected so as to exhibit a high impedance to ground mode currents.

  • Patent number: 4939486
Abstract: Filter equipment for power lines has a double-tuned shunt filter (F1) which has a series resonance circuit (C1, L1) connected in series with a parallel resonance circuit (C2, L2). The capacitor banks of the two resonance circuits are formed so as to have opposite signs on the temperature coefficent of the capacitor capacitance.

  • Patent number: 4419660
Abstract: An electric filter, for example an harmonic filter in an HVDC convertor, has, in addition to the main filter, a low power model filter having the same frequency characteristic as the main filter. The model filter is supplied with a voltage which is a scaled-down version of the voltage appearing across the main filter. The currents in the main and model filters are sensed at corresponding places in the filters and compared. If a deviation occurs between the sensed currents in the main and model filters, an indicating signal is generated which indicates a deterioration in the performance of the main filter.

  • Patent number: 4198668
Abstract: a spark gap device in a high-voltage direct current interrupting device maintains a substantially constant ignition voltage by constructing the spark gap device in at least two series-connected main spark gaps connected in parallel with a voltage divider for distributing the voltage across the main spark gaps. An ignition voltage-determining auxiliary gap is connected in series with an impedance connected in parallel with one or more of the main spark gaps to effect a continued ignition thereof. The ignition voltage of the high-voltage direct current interrupting device is determined by the auxiliary gap such that the auxiliary gap is not subjected to appreciable wear whereby the variations of the ignition voltage are relatively small and not influenced by the wear of the main spark gaps.
