    Abstract: The invention relates to a container for receiving radioactive waste materials, in particular for receiving spent fuel elements, comprising a container casing, a container base which is connected to the container casing, and at least one container cover. The container cover has at least One locking recess which is arranged its the edge region on the upper face of the cover. At least one locking element is arranged or at least one locking element can be arranged in the locking recess. The locking element has at feast one formfitting protrusion which is oriented in the direction of the container easing and which engages into a complementary formfitting recess of the container casing in the locked state of the container cover. The formfitting recess is arranged in the edge region of the container casing on the cover side.
