  • Patent number: 5135462
Abstract: Empty cans are formed in preparation for being filled. The empty can includes a sleeve and two end walls. One of the end walls contains a filler opening for enabling product to be subsequently inserted into the can and thereafter discharged from the can. The filler openings can be closed by tear strips or screw caps.

  • Patent number: 4972797
Abstract: Adhesive is applied in a ring-shaped pattern to a surface of a jacket to enable a closure to be secured to the jacket. The jacket is held stationary, and a nozzle of an adhesive applicator is rotated to apply the adhesive. The nozzle is adjustable transversely of its axis of rotation to vary the distance between the nozzle and the jacket.

  • Patent number: 4925440
Abstract: An apparatus for the making of container jackets from flat cardboard or plastic blanks. The blank is folded around a core by means of pivoted fingers which are moved toward the core while ends of the fingers are guided in guide passages to produce pivoting of the fingers. The fingers pivot such that blank-engaging ends of the fingers fold the blank around the core. The slide guides are mounted for pivotable movement simultaneously with the movement of the fingers toward the core, whereby the movement of the fingers can be adapted to cores of different diameter by changing the distance of movement of the carrier, i.e., the same fingers and slide guides can be used with an infinite number of core diameters.

  • Patent number: 4913692
Abstract: An apparatus for producing container jackets from blanks comprises a winding core around which a blank is wound in a manner forming an overlapped area. A pressing element is arranged to engage and press the overlapped area. An actuating mechanism urges the pressing element against the overlapped area to apply a pattern of radial pressing forces along the length of the overlapped area. The actuating mechanism is able to longitudinally shift the pressing force pattern along the overlapped area to adapt the apparatus to the pressing of different types of jackets, such as jackets of different lengths.

  • Patent number: 4718596
Abstract: A folding tray is formed by a single foldable blank which includes a bottom wall, lateral walls, and corner sections. The lateral walls and corner elements include border sections which form a horizontal rim around the periphery of the tray. Each corner section includes a generally rectangular center part and a pair of transition sections on either side thereof. Each transition section comprises a pair of triangular parts joined to each other by a fold line and joined to the center part and associated lateral wall by fold lines. Between the center part and its associated border section is a lens-shaped equalizer section which avoids the creation of an abrupt angle between the center part and border section to enable the border section to lie flat in the erected tray. The equalizer section is defined by a pair of curved fold lines which converge to form points situated adjacent the respective transition sections.

  • Patent number: 4610655
Abstract: In the manufacture of paper containers, a paper jacket is wound upon a first support mandrel. The wound jacket is transferred to a second support mandrel by a transfer device. A positioning device in the form of a circular ring is situated in front of the second support mandrel. The jacket is pushed through the ring en route to the second mandrel and thus becomes aligned with said second mandrel while simultaneously being shaped in accordance with the circular cross-section of the ring to conform to the circular cross-section of the second mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4560063
Abstract: A paper container has a bottom in which there is impressed a deformation groove to allow the bottom to deform in response to reduced internal pressures occurring as a hot liquid cools inside of the closed container. The bottom is formed in a continuous one-step process in which a series of coaxially arranged, telescoping tools travel relative to one another along a common axis to form the bottom with the deformation groove and a bent outer edge.

  • Patent number: 4452596
Abstract: A paper cup of surface-protected paperboard and an apparatus for making the same, with the paper cup including a wound cup wall and a cup bottom inserted therein. Ends of a wall blank forming the cup wall are overlapped after a winding of the wall blank, and an inner cutting edge is covered by a protective strip welded together with the cup wall. The protective strip is fashioned as a sealing strip in flat contact with the inner surface of the cup wall and is welded to the cup wall on both sides of the overlapping point. The apparatus includes a winding station wherein the wall blank is wrapped onto a winding mandrel and is welded together at the overlapping zone in a subsequent welding station. With further devices being provided for inserting a cup bottom in the thus manufactured cup wall. A positioning device for the sealing strip is associated with the winding mandrel with the positioning device lying in front or preceding the winding station.
