  • Publication number: 20080289299
Abstract: A method of reducing the proportion of oxygen in an at least partly formed package before product is filled into the package in a filling station in a filling machine, where the package comprises a tube-shaped blank of packaging material, the blank being closed in a first end and open in a second end. The method involves, during transport of the package to the filling station from an immediately preceding station in the filling machine, passing the package beneath a supply means for inert gas, and when the package passes the supply means generating a gas pulse in a direction down into the package. An apparatus is provided for reducing the method into practice.

  • Patent number: 7306940
Abstract: An electroporation device having a signal generating circuit (3) connectable at the output to electrodes (5) fittable to a substrate (35) having cells. The electrodes (5) produce an electric field which induces permeabilization of the cell membranes to facilitate introduction of substances into the cells. The amplitude of the signal (12) applied to the electrodes is closed-loop controlled on the basis of the impedance (Z(?)) of the substrate, so as to regulate the amplitude of the signal following a reduction in impedance caused by permeabilization of the cell membranes.

  • Publication number: 20070118069
Abstract: An apparatus for treating tumors utilizing an electric field in which a voltage generator generates brief voltage pulses applied to electrodes connected to a measurement unit. The electrodes are secured at a restricted region of a human or an animal and form electric fields in the tissue between the electrodes. The measurement unit determines the impedance between the electrodes which is substantially determined by the electric properties of the tissue between the electrodes. A registration and calculator device forms a control unit which, based on the impedance determined by the measurement unit, controls the output voltage of the voltage generator such that the electric field which is formed in the tissue has a constant predetermined value and realizes a peroration of cell membranes in the tissue which permits passage of treatment substances fed to the patient.

  • Publication number: 20060015147
Abstract: An apparatus (60) according to the present invention includes a voltage generator (1) for generating brief voltage pulses for the impression of voltage on electrodes (6, 15, 16, 24) included in the apparatus, and a measurement unit (50) which is coupled to the electrodes. These are designed to be secured at or inserted in tissue in a restricted region of a human or an animal in order therebetween to form electric fields in the tissue. The measurement unit (50) is disposed to determine the impedance between the electrodes which is substantially determined by the electric properties of the tissue which is located between the electrodes. A registration and calculator device (10) forms a control unit which, based on the impedance determined by the measurement unit, controls the output voltage of the voltage generator such that the electric field which is formed in the tissue always has a predetermined value.

  • Publication number: 20030045497
Abstract: The invention relates to vectors produced in a donor host cell, which upon transfer into a receiver host cell maintain the desired expression of the nucleotide sequences that are located within the vector. The maintenance of the desired expression is achieved because the vector at least partly remains unmethylated within the receiver host cell. The donor host cell is different as compared to the receiver host cell and the receiver host cell being capable of methylating DNA. The invention also relates to methods for the production of such vectors and the use of the vectors in industry as well as in medicine.

  • Patent number: 6248056
Abstract: An apparatus (40) according to the invention includes a radiation emitter (34) for ionizing radiation and a high voltage generator (1) for generating brief voltage pulses for voltage application of electrodes (6, 15, 16, 24) included in the apparatus. The electrodes are designed to be secured at or introduced into tissue in a restricted region of a human or an animal and to form between them an electric field in the tissue. The radiation emitter (34) is provided to emit ionizing radiation to a tumor in the tissue in that region which is to be treated, while the electrodes (6, 15, 16, 24) are disposed to be placed in or at the tumor in order that the electric field pass through the tumor.

  • Patent number: 6237278
Abstract: Weed seeds are controlled by high voltage pulses with short duration which electropermeabilize the cell membranes of weed seeds in the ground. The device is selective and damages only germinating weed seeds and plants early in their life cycle. The required amount of energy is small; with rectangular pulses the optimal field strength is between 100-300 kV/m with a duration of (10-100 microseconds). A transformer placed on a sowing machine transforms electrical energy to high voltage pulses. The energy may be taken from the pulling tractor via a transmission or from an integrated power source. The high voltage pulses are applied to electrically conducting via applicators to two or more fixedly spaced plates to the soil around newly sown seeds.

  • Patent number: 4692084
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lifting apparatus, especially a barrel tilter, which is preferably raisable and movable by means of a low lift truck (4). To eliminate the need for power units in each of the lifting apparatuses, the lifting apparatus (1, 37, 45, 50) comprises a base member (2) onto which a low lift truck (4), preferably a lift truck by means of which the lifting apparatus is raisable and movable, can be driven to weight the base member (2) from above, and a lifting unit (3) movably connected to the base member (2) is so arranged in relation to the base member (2) that the parts of the truck (4) which are to perform lifting are positioned beneath the lifting unit (3) when the truck (4) has been driven onto the base member (2), whereby the lifting unit (3) can be operated by the parts of the truck (4) adapted to perform lifting to impart lifting movements to the lifting unit (3) while the base member (2) is weighted by the truck (4).

  • Patent number: 4648762
Abstract: An apparatus for preparing the edges of metal sheets to be welded comprises one or more metal working means, particularly milling cutters, included in a unit which is associated with means for producing between the sheet and the unit a relative movement during which the metal working means are working an edge of the sheet. The means for producing said relative movement comprise two sets each including at least three rotatable rollers which can be pressed against opposite sides of the sheet and of which two rollers engaging the same side of the sheet are spaced apart in the direction of movement in order, together with the roller or rollers engaging the opposite side of the sheet, to safely hold the sheet also when said metal working means have passed the end of the sheet edge being worked.

  • Patent number: 4302173
Abstract: A machine for moulding mouldable products, preferably foodstuff masses. A piston is slidable in a piston passage of a housing and a moulding tool defining a moulding cavity is slidable in a moulding tool passage of the housing. The piston and moulding tool are coupled to a common rotary drive disc for reciprocation such that when the moulding tool is in a first position, the piston pumps the mouldable product into the moulding cavity, compacting the product to a desired consistency, and when the moulding tool is in a second position, the mouldable product compacted in the moulding cavity is discharged from the machine.

  • Patent number: 4238865
Abstract: A boot support device including a pair of shanks which engage each other intermediate their ends but closest to the upper end of the device. The inter-engagement of the shanks effects a rocking movement between the shanks to cause the lower ends of the shanks to move apart to facilitate insertion into the legs of boots. The divergence of the lower ends is effected by causing sections of the shanks near the upper ends to be squeezed together. A predetermined divergence may be effected by movement into a certain position of a hollow slider which is displaceable along the shanks. Divergence of the lower ends of the shanks may also be effected by manually squeezing together opposed sides of a loop-shaped connection extending between the shanks at the upper end.
